Tay Twp youngsters step back in time Children between the ages of four and 15 who are living in Tay Town- ship are learning what it's like to step back in time, be lumber jacks, go to box socials and be good soldiers. The theme of this year's recreation program being run by Tay through a Ministry of Culture and Recreation grant is "Heritage Days". The purpose is to help celebrate Midland's centennial and teach the children more about their past by sending them back through time. According to Kathy Snider, director of the day camp program, this year, Tay's six councillors will travel daily between six different locations in order to bring day camp to as many Tay Township children as possible. Camps will be held for several 10 day periods in Waverley, Vasey, Gawley Bay and Waubaushene. In Wyebridge Tay Township is combining services with Tiny to run a camp. "We done a lot of digging around for in- formation on the past and there's a lot of it,'" Miss Snider says. Among the various activities children will visit the Penetanguishene Mifi- tary and Naval Establish- ment, they will hold a penny carnival and box social "'days" devoted to acting out the part of people from the past. At most of the camps the children will also be bused to Midland's YMCA for summer swimming lessons. The day camp started this week and so far "registration has been pretty good," 3H Berriault entering dinghy race The Times challenges you. We want you to try and beat us. We're entering outdoor columnist and all round good guy Bryan Berriault in the Great Little Dingy race being held July 22 on Midland Bay. Bryan expects to be so fast and so good in his dingy he'll shoot right past all the competitors leaving them fighting in his wake. At the end of the race he'll have time to cast his line, catch a nice big bass and write his column for next week before another--the second place com- petitor--struggles across the finish line. "It's all a matter of training and skill,' Bryan told a Times reporter. Bryan is determined to give the race his darndest and paddle The Times to victory. Can you beat him? We challenge you! Discharge granted on conviction A youth was given an absolute discharge by Judge H. E. Zimmerman in Provincial Court on Monday morning after pleading guilty to failing to make restitution to a Midland man after a conviction in 1977. According to the crown attorney Tom Cleary, Kenneth George O'Hara was convicted on a charge of mischief in August 1977. At that time he was placed on probation for 12 months and ordered to make $50 restitution to Ron Sauve within two months. This spring Mr. Sauve told the police he had not received his $50. When the accused was charged with failing to make the restitution he immediately paid the $50. Judge Zimmerman gave Mr. O'Hara the discharge "since he paid the money back." "You are free to go but make sure the next time you are required to do something by a court order, you do it," the judge said. 10, Wednesday, July 12, 1978 4 Reg. $1.39 YW Wt Y1 Week Only SS J _ \ 4%) oe =~ SIMONIZ PASTE CAR WAX {- { 1 AY) Special j d e 1 : Original fine quality wax gives a Purchase lustrous, rock-hard finish to auto- mobile. 8-ouncecan. 39-2743 w "A Limited Quantity 'Portable Barbecue ~~ Easy to set up...easy to carry...easy on the budget.
