oS i I a a inl lial il Movie review by Terry Dupuis One of the biggest movie hits of 1976 was a Supernatural _ thriller called "The Omen". Gregory Peck and Lee Remick starred in it as the foster parents of a child who turns out to be the Anti-christ, the son of Satan, which was predicted in a_ biblical prophecy. At the end of that movie, the parents and any others who had discovered the true identity of the child Damien were dead. But six-year-old Damien was still very much alive, leaving the way open fora sequel. Two years later, the sequel has now been released. The new movie is called "Damien", and it has been subtitled "Omen II" to make certain that moviegoers will realize it is a sequel. The sequel has a completely new cast, since Peck, Remick and the other leads in '"'The Omen" were all killed off. "Omen II" also has a different child actor playing the part of Damien, since the new story is taking place some seven years after the events of the first picture. In the new Omen movie, Damien is now a boy of 13. He has been adopted by his late father's brother, a rich industrialist played by William Holden. Holden also has a son from a previous marriage who is about Damien's age. Lee Grant plays Holden's second wife The main plot of the movie is launched when Damien and his. step- brother are sent to a military academy as cadets. As in the earlier movie, any one who op- poses Damien or who gets too close to the truth meets with a violent death. And "Damien- Omen II"' contains violent deaths aplenty. I counted a full dozen of them throughout the course of the movie. "Omen II" is_ lively undemanding ---- entertai- nment for viewers who enjoy supernatural thrillers. And it benefits from. the presence of a good cast. This film marks William Holden's first horror movie, and he does quite well. Like Peck in the earlier film, Holden imparts authority to his role and provides a focal point of realistic iden- tification for the audience amidst all the spooky goings-on. Also giving good ac- counts of themselves in the cast are Lee Grant; veteran actress Sylvia Sydney as_ Holden's elderly aunt; and Lew Ayres, the screen's original Dr. Kildare, as a family friend.
