The main difference between the GPM plan and AHOP is that assistance from _ the federal government will be extended to resale homes. Basically the same _ benefits are provided under the GPM plan for both new and existing housing as are now available under the present AHOP loans. The AHOP loans reduce mortgage interest rates from the current 1012 per cent to eight per cent ona home selling at or below the set AHOP price limit. In Collingwood, the maximum house price to qualify for GPM is $39,000. The loan under the GPM plan will be in the form of a second mor- tgage. The program will go into effect once lending institutions have worked out all the details, a process which could take at least two months, according to CMHC of- ficials. There are now between 25-30 new AHOP homes on the market in Collingwood. These homes are available under either the new or old AHOP programs. The new AHOP plan came into effect May 1, but these homes were started before that date so homebuyers can take advantage of whichever program they choose. Under the old program, interest-free loans and, in some cases, grants are available to the home buyer. Both federal and provincial grants are available for some with a dependent. The maximum grant available is $125 a month and is determined by a family's gross income. The new program does not provide any grants and interest is charged on the loan. The May 1 changes allow single persons to buy AHOP homes for the first time. Under all the programs, a down payment of five per cent is required. Tieless summer for town Lock up those neckties and throw away the key. July and August have been declared tieless months by Mayor Harry Bell and council, as has been the custom in Collingwood for the past three years. Leaving the ties in the closet provides an op- portunity for business men to attend work in 'sports attire in keeping with the holiday at- mosphere which prevails in the town during the summer months. Collingwood men will be able to face the hot, sticky summer weather in comfort and not be forced to suffer from being buttoned right up to the neck. So take a cue from the town fathers. Go informal | aid enjoy the summer. Brian and Mr. and Mrs. Stewart, Cathy Michael -of Utopia, are spending a few days of their holiday this week visiting in the area. (SHARP) OAKVIEW COMMUNITY HALL WASAGA BEACH ARE WE GOING TO BE ABLE TO AFFORD LIVING AT WASAGA BEACH??? During the present Council's term of office of 18 months, more taxpayers' Excessive Spending money has been committed for the next 20 years than has been spent in capital expenditures over the past 50 years in our municipality. This shocking increase is as a result of the Arena Complex, Firehall, Works Building and Water and Sewers (the latter without a promised referendum), all accountable to the present Council. Further, if they are returned to office this Fall we understand a new Town Hall and possibly a Post Office are being considered. As a result of the above disturbing information, E.D. Langevin, President of the Election Year Nov. 13, °78 Association, a former Reeve of Wasaga Beach 1966 to 1971, who retired undefeated, has announced his candidacy for Mayor, along with his running-mate Len Cater for Reeve. A team of candidates will be shortly announced who will be dedicated to controlling the day-to-day expenditures and to restrain further capital outlay.
