In previous years, this very popular event has alv ays been held beiore Christmas Stained glass, ceramics, weaving, batik, printmaking, jewelry, hot glass, and textiles will be included in the third-year exhibition, with work ranging from _ lidded ceramic feet to wall hangings. An exhibition by Design Arts students enrolled in third-year Creative and Material Arts Programme was initiated last year and met with enthusiastic response The Material Arts Program includes options in Textiles and Weaving, Ceramics and Glass, and Metal, Wood, and Plastics The exhibition is designed to allow the students to make a personal statement and to experience the thoughts and considerations of an exhibition of their work This involves first-hand experience in meeting deadlines and _ other requirements Hie professional show and provides the public with an opportunity to view the calibre of work being produced at the College Public scrutiny is a meaningful and im portant part of any exhibition 30 days for impaired driving An Old Fort Road area man was sentenced in provincial court Monday to a jail term of 30 days after pleading guilty to a charge of impaired driving William Ray Miles, 54, also had his driver's license revoked for 14 days by presiding Judge Inch The court learned that Mr. Miles was charged by Midland police March 2 after being observed driving in an erratic manner. Crown Attorney Cleery told the court that Mr. Miles was also ob- served walking in an unstable fashion after leaving his automobile A breathalyzer test revealed a blood-alcohol content of 340 milligrams, well above the accepted percentage of .08. Mr. Miles told the court that he would appreciate a lenient sentence, as he required his automobile in his employment "T believe on the night that this occurred, my drink must have been spiked or something," he went on to claim. Judge Inch asked Mr. Miles if he had a drinking problem, to which Mr. Miles responded in the negative, stating that he was a social drinker The Judge told Mr. Miles that "an alcoholic is one who doesn't admit it. It. seems you have a drinking problem and need treatment." He said he didn't like sentencing people who require treatment, but in view of the high alcohol content revealed by the breathalyzer and a previous impaired driving conviction, felt the 30-day sentence was appropriate.
