CHICKENS -2.69 (Available in stores with Deli depts. only) Martin Veall Concert a festival preview A concert in Penetanguishene last Sunday afternoon featured local choral groups, instrumentalists soloist vocalists, and the combined musical talents of a 132 member massed band The concert bands from Midland and Penetanguishene Seco ndary schools joined together for the event and as well as 76 Trom bones from The Music Man they played the theme from Star Wars Second Suite in F, by Gustav Holst, Concerto for Madison Avenue (a medley of familiar ad A Folk selections Christ Superstar and The Lord is My Shepherd The combined bands were conducted alter nately by John Coull, PSS Music Head, and Phyllis McCullough, who heads the music department at MSS For the audience, the sound of the bands was impressive and stirring. It's the first time the two long student bands have combined their talents, and the concert was all the more impressive when one considers that the combined group had only one rehearsal together A favourite moment in vertising jingles Song Suite from Jesus massed the concert was_ the Tribute to Glenn Miller (Tuxedo Junction, Little Brown Jug Bounce and American Patrol) played by the massed bands Kathleen Mounteer directed the St. Paul's United Church Choir in Tonight, The Way We Were and a_ bouncy rendition of Just A Closer Walk With Thee More choral selections were contributed by the Intermediate Glee Club Jersey from Parkview Public School, directed by Mrs Widdes Mrs. H. Veall con ducted a choral group from Huron Park School in Land of the Silver Birch, and the Blue Tailed Fly The program was rounded out by per formances by a number of instrumental and vocal soloists Martin Veal Brent Farquhar, Cindy Grozelle, Kelly Ehler Karen Wright, Rosalyn Fancy, Claudia Slama Car! Newman, Cheryl Smith and Lee Livingston. Each per former demonstrated that there is a lot of young musical talent in our area It was a pleasant way to spend a February Sunday best described by the words to one of the jingles in the Madison Avenue medley M-mm, Good!
