The new face around the Midland OPP offices these days is that of Constable Ron Adair. Constable Adair comes to Midland from Kenora, where he served New officer three years with the OPP. An OPP Coldwater skate-a-thon will aid arena fund by E. Lorraine Orr Ice skaters remember the Skate-a-thon in aid of the Coldwater 'Save the Arena Fund". Participants 16 years of age and over begin skating at 10 p.m. Friday, February 10 and under 16 years of age begin on Saturday, February 11 at 8a.m. All skating will end at 4 p.m. on Saturday. There is still time to obtain sponsor sheets from Beach's Shell and to line up sponsors. Moonstone Public School Active The students of Moonstone Public School made good use of the surplus snow these past weeks by trying their skill at snow sculptures. A green and yellow caterpillar, the CN Tower, an Eskimo in his kayak and a large turtle all appeared in front of the school. The children of Grades 5 to 8 made the statues, poured water over them to promote freezing and used diluted poster paint for the coloring. There will be a dance at the Moonstone Public School on Friday, February 10, 7:15 p.m. to 11 p.m. for students of Grades 6 to 9. The guest speaker was Dr John MelInnes, Library News There is a new set of Canadiana Encyclope- dias now available at the Coldwater Memorial Library. These books have been purchased with money received from the Wintario Grant. This up- to-date set will be very helpful to students requiring information for school projects and they are invited to make use of the facilities during library hours. Also available at the library, Senior Citizen Building and the Jay- Haro Nursing Home are catalogs listing a variety of large-print books. Persons interested in this type of book are asked to study these catalogs and place their requests with librarian, Mrs. Mona Beach. Coldwater School Activities Anyone noticing many of the children at Cold- water Public School last Friday would have thought there was a measle epidemic. The appearance of spots on many of the students' faces was to represent freckles as they attended, in costume, the 'Hillbilly Hop" The dance from 3 to 5 p.m. was sponsored by the Grade 8 class to help promote school spirit and to earn money for the class trip to Ottawa in May. Children from Grades 1 to 8 were invited and the gymnasium was really "hoppin'"'. Costumes were judged in each classroom and the winners competed in the gym. The first for girl was won by Dawn Gill, Grade 7 and for boy, Cevin Laughlin, Grade 3. Honorable mention was awarded to Steven Lovering, Grade 2. The Public School Parents' Association will be conducting a dance on Friday, February 10 in the Coldwater school gym. Doors will open at 8 p.m. and close at 9 p.m. The dance will end at 11 p.m. The dance con- venors, Mrs. Ann Hen- derson and Mrs. Ruth Bolyea have planned spot dances and a door prize for the children from Grades 6 to 9 only, from Warminster, Moonstone, Coldwater and Waubaushene schools.
