After -a scoreless first period, Midland exploded for six goals in the second period putting the game well out of reach of the Wasaga Beach club. A single goal in the third period upped the score to 7-0. Steve Kennedy got off to an early start in the second period with a goal from Fred Wallace before two minutes had elapsed. Steve Dunn scored with an assist by Martin Quigley and was followed 20 seconds later by Chris Wright, who scored from Wallace to make it 3-0. Midland scored three more quick goals before the end of the period, one each by Ange Decola, Mike Abram and Martin Quigley, giving them a commanding lead going into the third period. Assists on the goals went to Wright, Wallace, Dunn, Quigley and Martin Veall. Wallace scored Midland's seventh goal late in the third period Defence with assists going to Wright and Veall. Goaltender Craig Watson played an out- standing game in the Midland net to earn the shutout. Friday, Midland played to a 4-4 tie in exhibition play against Parry Sound at the Parry Sound Arena. Kevin Denis scored early in the first period to put Midland ahead after Martin Veall fed him a pass to set up the play. Chris Wright increased Midland's lead to two goals beating the Parry Sound netminder with a shot set up by Fred Wallace. The two teams played to a scoreless tie in the second period as_ both goaltenders came up with many excellent saves. Parry Sound came back to tie the game at 2-2 and went ahead by one goal momentarily before Tim Brickles scored unassisted to tie it again at 3-3. Chris Wright put Midland into the lead once again with a goal from Kevin Denis but, Parry Sound beat the Midland goalkeeper with only 41 seconds left in the game. Rick Moreau (43) defends for Ron's Longhorns during Simcoe County Men's Basketball league game with Orillia C and C Panters Wednesday at Midland Secondary School. Longhorns were slow to start their regularly fast paced game and waited until the third quarter to beat Panters 75-57. The Midland Secondary School senior basketball squad continued its winning ways Tuesday afternoon, with a 66-45 victory over Orillia's Park Street Collegiate. MSS hosted the Park - Street Cagers, and made it quite obvious io them why they hold down first place in GBSSAA senior basketball standings. After a slow start, the MSS team came alive in the second quarter. Coming out of the first quarter behind Park Street 12-6, MSS managed to get both its offence and defense working, limiting Park Street to ten points, while picking up 21 for itself. After half time, the game belonged to MSS. Its lead expanded to 49-31 by the end of the third quarter, and after a 17- point fourth quarter, the MSS squad had sent Park Street home with a convincing loss. High scorers for MSS were Glen Bannan with 18 points, Garth Haughton with 17,. and James Moreau, who netted 12 markers for MSS. The victory of the seniors, however, was all that MSS fans had to cheer about Tuesday. Both the Junior and Midget teams went down to defeat at the hands of clearly superior Park a Reg a uipii paseo eat oretigion Staff photo Midland Seniors lone winners Street squads. The juniors, although half time leaders in their game, could not withstand a powerful onslaught by Park Street, nor could they penetrate an inspired defense. MSS managed only six points in the last two quarters, and this, coupled with a 25-point second half by Park Street, was enough for the team to be beaten 33-25. MSS top scorers were Doug Heppler, who added nine points to his season's total, and John Farragher, who scored 8. Park Street midgets blasted the MSS squad out of their Adidas, walloping them 73-32. MSS was behind all the way in the game, although at half time it seemed that a victory was still possible, as only seven points separated the two squads. However, a 31-point third quarter scoring blitz by Park Street, sealed the fate of MSS. A 17-point final quarter by Park Street made that fate bonded and delivered. The outstanding player of the game was Park Street's Rosteau, who scored an amazing 36 points. Midland's top scorers were Dave Leduc, and Tod Clarke, who netted nine points apiece. §
