Mayor Lynn Mayor Moreland Lynn is one of the citizens I approached. His writing indicates careful judgment before becoming emotionally involved. He has a thirst for knowledge that he must satisfy. Mayor Lynn is shooting at a distant goal. Some people who set their goals as high would tend to be daydreamers, but not our Mayor. He has _ the determination and self reliance that it takes to achieve these high ex- pectations. Mary Gibson Mary Gibson, our Contact Lady is my next contributor. Her hand- writing shows an ex- tremely emotional response. She would tend to jump into a situation without thinking it out clearly. This however, is not necessarily an un- desirable trait. It seems that it could be quite desirable in the field in which Mary Gibson is involved. Friendliness goes hand in hand with the en- thusiastic emotional response. On the other hand, the impulsive reaction could quite easily land one "'in the soup" so to speak. Mrs. Gibson has managed to become quite an in- dependent person, one who takes responsibity for her own decisions. This independence, the ability to shrug off the opinions of others would tie in well with Mrs. Gibson's impulsiveness. A person sensitive to criticism could very easily get hurt often having such an extreme emotional response. Learning comes hard with Mrs. Gibson, but once she has learned something she fully un- derstands it and is very sure of what she knows. Mrs. Gibson sets her goals just a little beyond her reach. It seems a shame--but that's life. Chief Bates Chief Bates of the Midland Police Depart- ment on the other hand looks at life just a little too clearly. There are no stars in Chief Bates' eyes. Although quick to respond sympathetically, or in a mild way to emotional situations he will act with thought and precision. His emotions are held in check most of the time, but every now and again, his temper is sure to flare. The storm will be explosive but short lived. The Chief has a good eye for detail, a trait which I am sure he finds helpful in his chosen profession. Now that you've had the opportunity to compare these findings with the handwriting samples, perhaps you are won- dering about your own. Handwriting changes as you mature. It changes with your moods and desires. It changes as your awareness develops. So if you're handwriting has remained exactly the same for years, more than likely so have you. Dr. Chris Leitch is a Midland veterinarian. He welcomes questions from readers and will answer them in "You and Your Pet." by C.E. Leitch, D.V.M. This column is, the first of hope, many, that will be designed to impart some useful information to the pet owners of this area. I plan to cover basic concepts of health care and disease control, along with practical tips on how you, the pet owner, can help your pet become an enjoyable member of the family. I hope to dispel many of the myths and old wives' tales that have developed over the years. Much of what I will be saying in this column has been gained through first-hand experience. My wife and I have a large pet family--two large dogs, two cats and two horses. We, along with all new puppy owners went through the continual trauma of puddles, messes, and well-chewed rugs and furniture. The first six months of ownership of a dog in most cases, would try the patience of Job. Owning two large dogs definitely compounds the entire situation. The cleaning and repair bills were staggering, but they appeared minute compared to the food bills. We seriously began thinking of a recycling program because there was no doubt in our minds that there was more coming out one end than was being consumed at the other end. But--we did survive. Next week, I will talk about the new pup or kitten and its introduction to your home. I hope what I have to say will minimize some of the problems of those first few critical months that you and your pet share together.
