At Huronia Museum Swimwear of old not designed for coolness When you're lolling around the beach these hot days in your mini- bikini or slim trunks, give thought to the bathing costumes worn by your forebarers around the turn of the century. The one thing certain about them is that they were not designed for coolness. Huronia Museum in Little Lake Park has a couple of excellent examples of ladies' swimwear which the Misses Ella and Viola Tanner purchased for a trip to Atlantic City in 1900. The costumes, of heavy white lustre material dress-like and There were attached pantaloons which showed for several inches below the hems. Short sleeves, (about four inches) , ended in coloured braid decoration. The two sisters modeled the costumes for a photo at the time they presented them to the Museum nearly 30 years ago, and included were white laced shoes which came about half-way up the calves of the leg. Also on display is a man's woollen bathing suit of about the same era. It is green with a scoop neck and no sleeves. The one-piece suit had legs which ex- tended about midway between thigh and knee, with a skirt overtop and about three inches shorter. A white variety of | Obituaries Gordon (Red) Higgs, aged 68, passed away suddenly in Parry Sound on Saturday, July 2, 1977. Mr. Higgs is survived by his wife Ivy and his children Margaret Bath, Doreen Morley, Patricia Robitaille, William and Robert.
