Correction On Friday, June 24 the Friday Times erroneously reported the Senior Citizen Center's repaired its leaky roof with a government grant of $3,200. The total repair bill was $3,200 and a govern- ment grant of approximately $300 was for painting. The seniors' centre raised the funds for the repairs themselves. We apologize for this S00 ae error. CHAY blacks out Here's hoping lightning only strikes twice, for Huronia's new FM station at least. When the region ex- perienced the heavy storms on Monday af- ternoon the first bolt of lightning disrupted the hydro supply, by is 4 i citizen band munications. The bolt also caused a recently planted, small evergreen to be blown 40 feet from its spot in the landscaping, but still in its-fibre pot. Other damage caused by this bolt included disruption to the com- an on a pole on the south east corner of CHAY's property that in turn tripped all the fuses on the adjacent pole. The lack of power caused the station to be off air for about 90 minutes. Five minutes later the second bolt struck the STL tower located at the station. This bolt completely disintegrated a small antenna on the tower, used for monitoring local hi system, and to the cartridge machines, making it impossible for the station to play commercials, news clips, special features, even its own musical iden- tifications for over 5 hours. CHAY announcer Tony Pearce, who, at the height of the storm was terrified by a tremendous blue flash in the control room, hopes that this experience with Huronia's weather will not be repeated. ios, = P a SE ee = A letter from the Queen The Queen does answer letters from all walks of Canadians - and Sherry and Jana LeClair of Midland have the proof right in their hands. Some weeks ago Sherry's teacher at Parkview School talked to her students about Queen Elizabeth's Jubilee and six year old Sherry was so taken with the special event that she drew a large poster of the royal family and promptly mailed it, with a small letter of explanation, to Buckingham Palace. The reply came last week - a hand addressed and signed letter from Susan Hussey, one of the Queen's ladies-in waiting, who said she had been commanded by The Queen to 'thank you for the picture you have drawn for Her Majesty." No mention however was made of Sherry's request that the Queen visit Midland this year, but that did little to dampen the excitement at the Le Clair home last week.
