aes wee et Se ee ee Inand around town 'Paint Your Wagon' May 25-28 Huronia Players, who for the past 15 years have successfully -- presented plays ranging from 100 year old classics to children's theatre, will soon be breaking new ground. They are currently in rehearsal for their first musical, which will be "Paint Your Wagon."' It is to be presented in the Sacred Heart School Auditorium in Midland on May 25, 26, 27 and 28. Unlike previous productions, where there was a Single director, this time the direction is the work of a team. Lynn Gorell and Raymond Holt have accepted respon- sibility for the over all staging while Nancy Capps is in charge of the music. The chorus work is being led by a newcomer to the area, Janet French, who will also be seen on Stage. in the part of Sherry. Casting presented special problems to the directors as there are some 20 male parts as opposed to 9 female parts. In the majority of com- munity theatre groups the membership tends to be loaded in the other direction, which has meant that the directors have recruited several new members to fill our cast. These include Mike MeVittie and Stephen Hartnell who were most recently seen as Lan- celot and King Arthur in Midland Secondary School production of "Camelot", Ed Guthrie and Glen Campbell of. local Barbershoppers and Allan Drysdale of the Elmvale Choral Society. The story revolves around the California Gold Rush of the middle 19th century, and the variety of characters who appeared in various transitory settlements where ever gold was CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONERS INSTALLED IN YOUR FURNACE..2 TON CAPACITY ON LY Compare this low, low price e Installed e 1 year warranty © Climatrol central air conditioner... found. Be sure to plan ahead and reserve May 235, 26, 27 and 28 for "Paint Your Wagon" Plant show winners by Agnes Millward On Monday, April 25, the Midland Horticultural Society held its regular meeting and put on the third annual house plant show. The house plant show was displayed in the resource centre of Regent Public School, which ' proved to be an excellent room for such a display. Many thanks must be given to the staff and students of the school as they helped and ac- commodated the society in every way possible. Needless to say, the show was more suc- cessful than ones in the past with a _ record number of entries and exhibitors, many of whom were members. The judging results are as follows: Best of the show in horticulture-- Mrs. Kathy Beatty; Best of the Show in decorative, experienced--Mrs. Helen Redman; Mrs. Ruth Brewer; beginners--Mrs. Audrey Beatty; and juniors-- Terry Beatty. High points of the show went to Mrs. Kathy Beatty who ac- cumulated a total of 32 points. The guest speaker of the evening program was Mrs. Pat Tracey of Painswick who _ also judged the show in the afternoon. The audience soon learned that Mrs. Tracey is most knowledgeable in the care and culture of house plants. Mrs. Tracey specialized in african violets and their relatives, begonias, and as she put it "'the odds and ends" such as miniature geraniums, min-gloxi- nias, some succulents and , intermediate-- - a variety of orchids, many of which were brought for display. A most detailed and comprehensive lecture was given from how to start plants from seed to soil preparations and the use of automatic watering and what- kind of light systems to use. Mrs. Tracey certainly sent everyone home with many new and somewhat ingenious methods in the , care of house plants. The next meeting will be on Monday, April 30 in Regent Public School. This will be the spring flower show, when all the tulips, flowering shrubs, perennials and roses will be judged and on display.
