At desperate ends, they decide to become rob- bers, resultihg in some of the funniest scenes I've seen at the movies so far this year. The Eagle Has landed Beginning at the Odeon Movie review Obsession tells the story of a man (Cliff Robert- son) haunted by the tragic death of his wife. Years later he meets a young woman (Genevieve Bujold) who bears an uncanny resemblance to his late wife both in ap- pearance and manner. A romance develops, followed by enough suspense and intrigue to fill several Alfred Hit- chcock movies. In fact Obsession was designed by its director Brian de Palma as a tribute to Hitchcock, the master of suspense. His movie sis full of Hit- chcockian touches, red herrings and all. In plot and mood it bears a resemblance to two Hitchcock films in par- ticular: Rebecca, and Vertigo. This similarity is further enhanced by the musical score of the late Bernard Hermann, who wrote the music for many of Hitchcock's movie, including Vertigo, Psycho. Marnie and North by Northwest. De Palma, who previously, has directed such films as _ Sisters, Carrie, and Phantom of the Paradise, has cer- tainly fashioned a fine tribute to Hitchcock with Obsession, as well as creating a haunting eerie and memorable suspense tale in its own right. Fun With Dick and Jane The Companion feature with Obsession at the Pen Theatre is the recent hilarious fun-filled comedy Fun With Dick and Jane. Jane Fonda and George Segal work well together as an af- fluent middle-class suburban couple who suddenly find themselves without jobs. The film covers Dick's attempts to find work, his encounters with collecting unem- ployment insurance, and Jane's ill-fated attempt at owe Home Gifts You'll be amazed at the scope and variety of gifts for the home we've assembled for your" selection. The Eagle Has Landed, based on a best-selling novel, is an interesting blend of fact and fiction. Churchill is to be spending a weekend at a small English coastal and performances will be held Thur- sday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30, and Saturday afternoon at 2:30. Tickets are 50 cents. In all, about 200 involved in the production. Staff photo village, and this is where the abduction is to be made. Michael Caine plays the officer who is heading the German expedition, and Robert Duvall plays the German officer who masterminds the whole plan. Also in the cast are Donald Pleasance, Anthony Quayle, and Donald Sutherland as a renegade Irishman who helps the conspirators. -The director of The Eagle Has Landed is veteran film-maker John Sturges. His previous hits include Gunfight At The O.K. Corral, The Magnificent Seven and The Great Escape. You might watch for a $1.95 paperback called Guilt-Edged by Merlin Minshall a witty, cultivated and rather larger than life English- man who is reputed to be the inspiration for James Bond. His mother was a spy in World War 1, and after an adventurous cruise down the Rhine during which he was personally interrogated by Field Marshall Goring, and almost killed by a beautiful counter spy. He managed to get home with the news that the Germans were fortifying the Rhine for what turned out to be World War II. This was when Ian Fleming hired him to serve with British Intelligence, and his adventures are true, and every bit as entertaining as anything fictional dreamt up by Fleming. He was the first man to cross the Sahara on a motor-cycle and while travelling through the Congo, he accidentally discovered a_ secret' German army. In Rumania, he_ single handedly pirated a ship from the Nazis, and blew up a vital link in German tanker communications. It's exciting stuff, and true.
