These projects will be con- sidered if there is a change in priorities, and one of the approved projects is dropped, or if some of the federal allocation of $300,000 is not used up after the other projects are completed. The federal government sets an upper limit on its contribution, in this case $300,000, and the NIP steering committee must then® = work »out ..a redevelopment plan which makes the best use of this amount without making the municipality's _contrib- ution too great. The idea of staging the program over a period of four years was done in order to insure that the town is not burdened with an overly large ex- penditure in any one year. Fournier said during the meeting that the program was an am- bitious one, and after the meeting he added, '"'When I say ambitious, that's a total understatement." The NIP __ steering committee will draw up the final redevelopment plan in the next few weeks, taking into ac- count the few suggestions which were made during Thursday night's meeting. pe Eu .The proud winners Centre d'activités francaises télé: 549-8594 Penetanguishene Jacqueline Gautheir, centre right, was the winner of the Catholic Women's League Public Speaking Contest held two weeks ago. Also in the picture, St. Joseph's to ther left of the girls, are Gray Coach may change service - Cont'd from p.1 To offset the excessive projected losses, Gray Coach indicated it would seriously consider restructuring its services to the effect of reducing revenue miles from the present 15,247 to 10,788. Approximately one third, or 248 of the company's 915 employees would have to be laid off as a result of the cutbacks in service. Service to Barrie could be reduced from 12 daily trips to seven and trips between Toronto and - Orillia could be cut from eight to five daily. Passengers on the Toronto-Sudbury and Toronto-Buffalo routes account for 30 per cent of Gray Coach's regular route miles (excluding 'Go', chartered and sightseeing services) in 1976. It is through the revenues from. these routes that Gray Coach states it is able to maintain service to many smaller communities "which don't generate adequate revenue to sustain the service needed." The express services offered by Greyhound between Toronto and Niagara and Toronto and Buffalo will, the company maintains, "attract the majority of the through passengers between Toronto and Sudbury and Toronto and Buffalo" reducing Gray Coach's patronage and revenues. Staff photo runs is "'irrational" ac- cording to Gray Coach and the decision to permit competition unjust because it gives "other companies the most at- tractive and profitable elements of the service and leave(s) Gray Coach Lines' with respon- sibilities so costly that they will disastrously weaken the company and limit its ability to provide service." Gray Coach also con- tends that its competitor, Greyhound, has given no indication of where it will channel profits made on its.routes to Buffalo and Sudbury and that many customers now serviced by Gray Coach will have to endure inconveniences because of lack of stop- overs on the Greyhound's express routes.
