Base Borden started off strong, as they took a 2-1 lead in the first period, on goals by Daryl Douglas and Bob Swainsbury. Tim MacKay got the assist on Douglas' goal, and Swainsbury was assisted by Douglas. Penetanguishene's only first period goal was scored at the 5:41 mark by John St. Amant, from Ken Marchildon. Penetanguishene tied it up early in the second, when Larry Cowan scored from Ken Cowan and Ken Parent, but Borden came right back less than a minute later, with a goal by Douglas, unassisted. , John=-St-=* second goal of the night made it 2-2 towards the end of the second, with an assist going to Ken Cowan, and then Cowan put the Penetanguishene team out in front for the first time in the game, with just under six minutes remaining in the second. Ken Parent and Ken Marchildon scored within half a minute of each other to make it 6-3, with minutes about 10 Peewee 'A's consolation champions The Penetanguishene Major Peewees played in the Annual Peewee Tournament held in Stayner this past weekend, and came away as the Class "A" Con- solation Champions. They lost their first game Friday night, losing 4-3 to Leaside. Scoring for Penetanguishene was David Robillard (9) with a hat trick. The first goal was assisted by ,Ken Lacroix and Jerome Ladouceur, while the second was assisted by Jerome Ladouceur, and 'the third was unassisted. The second game, on Saturday, was. with Midland, and it turned out to be a real cliff-hanger. Tt went scoreless until there was 3:43 remaining in the game, when Peter Roi scored, assisted by Albert Gignac. Midland tied the score with only 1:09 remaining, and it ended in a 1-1 tie. After five minutes of sudden "yes it was still tied, so a shoot-off was set up, and only after five shooters from each team did Albert Gignac score to win the game 2-1 for Penetanguishene. The third game against Thornhill on Sunday, was won 3-1. Owen Sound's Bill Slumskie tucked a rebound past Paul Goodine in the Midland net to put the Steelers right back into the game. A minute and a half later, Hansford dug the puck out of the corner and relayed a pass to Lacroix in front of Owen Sound's Paul McLaren for his second goal of the night. Larry Fallon scored the winning goal to the second period. Owen Sound initiated an offensive drive of their own in the third period, scoring three goals on Goodine who was brought up from the Midland Legion Midgets for the contest. But Peltier fired a low wrist shot past the Steeler netminder to earn his hattrick and ice the game away for the Flyers. | Midland came up flat Tuesday night in a game they had to win to remain in contention for a playoff spot. They needed to win all four of their remaining games and Orillia lose all of theirs to make the playoffs, but Orillia pounded them 12-3 to ensure an early season end for the Flyers' players. Orillia scored four goals and Flyers one in each period. The barrage began at the 48 second mark for goaltender Joe Gibson as Orillia served notice of things to come. The score was 2-0, 27 seconds later and 2-1 at the 1:33 mark. Robillard scored Flyers' marker. By the time Flyers beat Orillia goaltender Stu Parnham for the second time, on a shot by Peltier, the Travelways had already beaten Gibson eight times. Peltier scored again late in the third period. About mid-way through the second period Larry Marchand put Hindson Marine on the scoreboard, assisted by James Dupuis. His goal was followed by goals by Peter Arbour and Guy Ealey, to make it 4-1 for Ken's Esso. Paul Henry made it 4-2 just before the end of the second. Henry scored again early in the third to make it 4-3, but Ken's Esso came back with one from Bill Arbour. The rink, skipped by Larry Merkley, goes on to meet the winners of divisions 9, 11 and 12, next Sunday in Orillia. The two top teams in that event will then go to the all Ontario finals. Local athlete wins bronze in Ontario track meet Penetanguishene Secondary School's Lucy Maurice managed to bring home a bronze medal from the All Ontario Indoor Track Meet, held on February 5 at the Canadian National peu ition grounds in Toronto. The athlete, who brought honours to her school last year for her shot put abilities, was competing in the 50 metre sprint event. Two other P.S.S. athletes, Marion Wilson Elementary school basketball and Louise Lepage, who competed in the 400 and 1500 metre events respectively, finished out of the medals. Garrisons centre Terry Spiker had a five point night as he scored four goals, and picked up one assist. Tom Gignac and Peter Brissette each got a goal and three assists, for four points, and team captain Alvin Robillard scored twice, and got one assist, for three points. Gerrard Lachapelle, Murry Guthrie and Bill Bowker scored the other Garrisons' goals. Les Chaisson scored two for the Packers, and "Ray Lisk got the other one. The weak point on the Bradford team Wed- nesday night appeared to be goal tender Berni Killorn, as the Garrisons only outshot the Packers 35-28, with Killorn stopping just a little more than two out of three shots on net. The Garrisons are the only team in the league which had finished its schedule, as Bradford and Bracebridge each have three games left, and Oro has two games to go.
