The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved and the treasurer's report was given by Mrs. E. Gillan. Mrs. i Savage, corresponding secretary read a copy of a letter sent from 'the town council to Mr. Gordon Smith, M.P. asking for an appointment with the minister of housing and the minister of social services re senior citizen housing, also a_ letter concerning the concert at Georgian College. Mrs. Grace Anderson reported on the Social Committees finances. It was decided to have our own club Valentine meeting. and invite guests for the March meeting. Business pertaining to the Mini-Bon'homme Carnaval was discussed and Mr. E. Pypher, Mr. L. Baker and Mrs. Gillan offered to pick up baking. The president reminded those present that Mr. Peal be speaking on Wills and Estates on February also the council meeting will be held on Monday, February 14th at 7:30. Euchre and crib- bage were then enjoyed followed by lunch. The monthly meeting of St. John's United Church Women was held in the Church Hall on Tuesday evening, February ist with President Mrs. J.W. Mrs. Marshall Evans gave a short talk on stewardship. Mrs. Lid- stone's topic was on missionary and_ service and told of different aspects of this. She read an article from a Mon- treal paper on Rev. John Matheson's work as a pastor of the Douglas Geriatric Hospital in Montreal. Mr. Matheson is a grandson of Mrs. Laura Belfry. Mrs. Lidstone also spoke of a minister at Nelson Lake and a fellowship group of work and crafts who are of all denominations in Manitoba; of 'the work of an Indian Guide at Great Slave and or work at Mud Lake in Labrador where there is the oldest United Church Congregation in the area. The minutes and the treasurer's reports were accepted and thank you cards read. Mrs. Chas. Evans reported 18 house calls and 21 hospital calls had been made. Everyone was to remember the 'Valentine Tea to be held in the Church Hall on Friday, Feb. 11th at 2:30 to 5 p.m. and the annual meeting of Simcoe Presbyterial in Collingwood was. an- nounced. Over 20 exhibitors will gather at the Midland Civic Centre March 11, 12 and 13 to display summer sporting equipment from yachts to tennis balls. Plans for show have just been finalized by Contact, the Midland based information and referral service which will use the funds to keep their non'profit organization operating for another few months. A winter Sportsarama is a possibility if Sportsarama 77 is successful. "We tried to get a cross- section of local people involved to _ display summer sports," said Contact chairman Brian Parr, "and we have had enough response to fill two Civic Centres. , The last time such a sports show was held in Midland was over 10 years ago, according to Contact. Entertainment will be set apart from Sports-a- rama '77, with a fashion show planned for Friday evening and Saturday.
