These were June Walker, Clare Pelletier, Grace Brousseau and Lorraine Kindy. On Wednesday Jan. 26 the members of the Community Centre Board met for the first time. June Walker was elected chairman, Clare Pelletier as Secretary Treasurer plus Grace Brousseau, Lorraine Kindy and Annita Smitten to assist from the last board. Mrs. Florence Belecher and Ted Savage, members of town council also attended. A program was quickly discussed for the oncoming summer, so that a grant could be obtained to hire student help, for such jobs as cleaning the parks and a summer program for the Joint garage sale planned for spring by Charlotte Gerdes Due to the inclement weather on Jan. 13, the meeting of the United Church Women was cancelled and held on Jan. 20 at the home of Mrs. Alice Hughes on King's road. Mrs. Ilene Bell opened the meeting with a devotional period intitled 'Beginning of a New Year'"', followed with the members singing a Hymn. Mrs. Rita Polkinghorne __ presided over the meeting for the last time. From now on it will be up to each hostess to conduct the meeting. Mrs. Mona Duncliffe read the minutes of the last meeting and also the correspondence, also for the last time. Mrs. Polkinghorne has ac- cepted the office of secretary. Mrs. Alice Hughes gave the treasurer's report also the year end report. Mrs. Polkinghorne read out the Church's year end financial statement. Mrs. Helan Eilson gave a report on the sick com- mittee, also a year end report on the number of cards, gifts ete. she had given during the past year. Following her report Mrs. Wilson handed over that office to Charlotte Gerdes for the - potential abilities relations. There were about 60 men and women and children present. The subject of a new minister for the church was discussed and it was Stated that though there were several people in- terested, they wouldn't be able to make a move until June. Mr. Mike Miller from Coldwater is the acting minister and doing a wonderful job, and is giving. communion to shut-ins and visiting people. On Thursday Jan. 24th a Mini Bonhomme Carnaval meeting was held at the Sportsman with last minute arrangements being made for the weekend of Feb. 4, 5 and 6. Tickets were distributed to be sold to help finance the program. On Friday Feb. 25th a Pot Luck Supper was held at the Royal Canadian Legion Victoria Harbour for the Carnaval Queen Contestants. The supper was delicious and the girls all stood up and said a few words. Voting took place on Saturday, Jan. 26th but the winner won't be known until Feb. 4th.
