Page 18, Wednesday, February 2, 1977 Skiing tips Cont'd from p. 14 What type of exercise do you do in the off-season to prepare for a winter of cross-country skiing? I hike in the fall to build up my leg muscles and sometime take along ski poles to condition my arms. I usually do two hours of roller skiing a * day (skis with wheels that are used on pavement). Sit ups and push ups will help build up stomach and arm muscles. As owner-operator of Mountain Vie Ski Hills do you see quite a cross- section of people taking 1 HD. crOSSsG untry, skiing? Bech psesge ri s. not unusual fo ge busload from Toronto and find most of the people are in their fifties. Cross- country skiing is something for those who want to get outside and exercise but can't alpine ski. Where can you go around the Midland area to cross-country ski? Well besides right here at Mountain View where we have marked trails, there is a place in Lafontaine, you can ski on PUC meeting cont'd from p. 2 It was also decided that the Chairman, vice- Chairman Lions, PUC General Manager Art Evans, and Citizens' Representative John Dion would be attending the Ontario Municipal Electric _Association's annual meeting at the Royal York in Toroto at the end of this month. The OMEU will be holding its meeting in conjunction with the American Municipalities 'Electrical Union. In striking its various committees, the com- mission appointed Kevin Lyons, Charles Parker and CALC Zz. epee Representative John Dion to the Electrical Advisory Committee. the nature trails at the Wye Valley Marsh, in Little Lake Park or on Lands and_ Forests property. But you should always know' where you're going before you head out into the bush. There are quite a few tours operating in the area and the Midland Ski Club at 526-8141 -will be able to provide more information. Any final advice for the novice cross-country skier? Take wax with you on long tours in case the temperature changes. Lessons on . waxing wouldn't hurt either. When skiing over ice watch out*for slush as it will ice your skis up pretty quick. Try also to avoid dense forests. Pine forests can be nice but the needles can stick to the bottom of your skis. Skiing at night can be fun and if there isn't quite enough light try hooking up a miner's type light for your forehead. 'And always make sure your skis are on the right feet. Unlike alpine skis, there is a difference between the left and right ski. The Waterworks Advisory Committee will be comprised of Mayor Lynn, Charles Hennin and Citizens' Representative Glen Rourke. Vice-Chairman Lyons and PUC Representative Tom Hawkins will sit on the Street Lighting Committee. Also, in a_ spirit of cooperation, Midland Council has asked the PUC to place some of its members on Committes of Council in an advisory capacity. Claude Buck will serve as a non-voting member of Council's Public Works Committee and PUC's' General Manager Art Evans will also sit on Council's Technical Committee as an advisory, non-voting member. ' Jehovah's Witness meeting It was announced this week that approximately fifty Jehovah's Witnesses from the Midland area have finalized their plans to attend a two-day sem1- annual circuit assembly in Brampton on February 5th and 6th. Mr. Arthur Allison, local spokesman for the congregation said, "Assemblies of this nature provide _ in- struction and reminders of how practical the Bible can be as a guide in our daily living. Also he pointed out the local congregation is looking forward with great joy to this opportunity to fellowship for two days with approximately 2,000 of their Christian brothers who are of the same faith and feeling."' In discussing the program he pointed out that it will follow the theme, "Entering A Large Door Leading To Activity" and the em- phasis will be on the evangelizing spirit that all Christians should possess. A good portion of the program will revolve around young people and their role in the Christian Congregation. The highlight of our assembly will be a Bible talk giyen by Mr. E. Racy Sunday afternoon at p.m. The title of that talk will be "Follow The Way To Life'. Mr. Roach oversees the work of Jehovah's Witnesses in Central Canada and will be the assembly chair- man. The site of the event will be the Johovah's Witnesses Assembly Hall which is located on High- way seven, a few minutes west of Brampton.
