Then with just under six minutes remaining in the game, Lemieux put the winner in the net for Emery's Electric, assisted by Desroches and Ken Labatte. In the second game of the morning, the last place Hindson Marine squad pulled what might be termed the upset of the season as they almost defeated the first place Ken's Esso team. They picked up their second point in 11 stars, as they tied Ken's Esso 3- 3. Peter DuBeau got the only goal of the first period as he scored from Larry Leroux to put Hindson Marine out in front. Just under three period, DuBeau scored again, unassisted, to make it 2-0. Then, just three minutes later, James Dupuis scored from Paul Henry and Dave Zwicker to make it 3-0 for Hindson Marine. Ken's Esso began the long comeback with just two minutes left in the second, as Steve McDonald scored from Paul Loughran. Just under four minutes from the end of the game, Tim Adams_ brought Ken's Esso to within one, as he scored assisted by Don Maurice. Hindson Marine just about managed to preserve the victory, but with just nine seconds left in the game, Peter Arbour dashed their hopes of achieving their first victory of the season when he scored from Martin McNamara. The weekend action leaves Ken's Esso out in front in the standings with 19 points, B. and J. in second with 12, Emery's Electric in third with 11, and Hindson Marine in the basement with two. Garrisons dump Oro Flyers 7-1 The Penetanguishene Brule Garrisons came on strong last Wednesday night, as they defeated the Oro Flyers 7-1. Juveni The Penetanguishene Juvenile Hockey team dropped two in a row over the weekend, as they lost 5-1 to Stayner on Satur- day, and 3-0 to Owen Sound on Sunday. In Saturday's game, the Stayner team opened the scoring when the game was just 28 seconds old, as Boyd Breedon found the mark, assisted by Tim MacDonald and Jim Lowe. Four and a half minutes into the second, Ed Legate scored from Lowe les drop two games to make it 2-0 before Larry Cowan made it 2-1, assisted by John St. Amant and Grant Quesnelle. From then on it was all down hill for the Penetanguishene team, as Stayner scored three in a row in the third period. The goals went to Bart Chapman, Dan Kneeshaw and Doug Gilchrist. Assists went to John Brown, Allen Lowe, Jim Lowe, and Breedon. On Sunday, the Juveniles never recovered from three quick goals by Owen Sound in the opening eight minutes of the game. Rick Powell, Steve Harron and Steve Anschulte scored for Owen Sound with assists going to Anschulte, Tim Dean, Pete Scott, Terry Keeling and Powell. Penetanguishene coach Peter DuBeau attributed the two losses to a mid- season slump which the team will have to get over before it goes into the Silver Stick tournament next week. Must win next three games Photo by Marilyn Lee Flyers clobber Thornhill, within point of Owen Sound Midland _Penetangui- shene Flyers head into their all important three game matchup against Owen Sound on a winning note after Monday night's game in Thornhill. The Thunderbirds amply -applied their of- fensive muscle for the first ten minutes but the excellent work of Flyers' goaltender Joe Gibson kept Midland from get- ting in a hole early. When the Flyers finally got moving they were not to be stopped and walked over Thornhill 8-2, Flyers are now only one point behind second last place Owen Sound who they met after press time last night and battle again on Boxing day and the following Wednesday. "There will be some changes if we lose these games," said coach Ed Dorion. "We can't afford to wait any longer to make our run for the playoffs." Rene Peltier is con- tinuing to hold a hot hand as he scored two goals and was in on two others Monday night. Ross Walton, Larry Fallon, Paul Robillard, Andy Lacroix, Vince Decola and Tim Merkley each scored singles. But the game's «first star had to be Gibson as he frustrated opposing forwards until the-second. period when the Thun- derbirds finally pierced his armour. By that time Flyers had already netted two, and after Thornhill's marker scored five unansweréd goals. Friday night's home game against Oak Ridges featured a completely different Flyers team. They were leading 5-2 going into the final period but were back to their bad habits that have put them in last place. For about a five minute: span Oak Ridges was allowed to do as they please, the result being three goals. Gibson was again outstanding in _ net, keeping his team in the game during: the second! period when the Flyers were bombarded by first place Oak Ridges. "If it hadn't.-been...for_. Joe we would have been behind," said Dorion referring to the lead Flyers enjoyed going into the third period. Flyers proceeded to fall even further behind, finding themselves on the short end of a 6-5 score late in the final 20 minutes. Peltier scored his second of the night to tie it up but Oak Ridges then scored the winner on a questionable play. Gibson stopped the long shot from the blue line and the puck dribbled off his pad and headed for the goal line. The goal judge said it went over but many fans questioned his judgement. "They're going to have to play 60 minutes of hockey," said Dorion after the game, "'or it's going to be a short season. _ They just forgot to check and in Junior hockey. if? you don't check you're going to lose." Scoring for Flyers were Peltier with two, Robillard, Cary Han- sford, Dan Rowat and John Beauchamp. sports calendar Gulf Sy LORNE RANCE GULF STATION ELMVALE Bill Clark General Contractor Landscaping - Excavating Sand and Gravel Supplies Snow Removal - ELMVALE Water Haulage Bus. 322-2545 Intermediate "C" Hockey Monday, December 27 The Penetanguishene Brule Garrisons take on the Oro Flyers at Oro.
