During my. term on council, I served on. the Recreation Board, the Township Planning Board, as..a~Represen- tative on =the Area Planning Boardand the St. Andrew's 'Hospital Board ae My line of work: takes me over a good. portion of the Township and affords me the chance to see and talk to peopled think therefore, that I have kept up to date with many of the problems within the Township and feel that I have something to offer towards the -- possible solutions to some of these problems. New ideas, approaches New ideas and new approaches to old problems are needed on Midland Council. Midland is faced with a difficult time for the next two years in building a new arena-community centre. This is going to require vigorous and efficient leadership. I am con- fident I can help supply that vigour and that leadership. We need a Council more open in its dealings with the public. We need open lines of communication between the Town Offices and the people who pay the taxes. We need to know what is going on. I will keep the lines open with regular reports to the taxpayers. We _ need _ sensible policies on conflict of interest and convention attendance. We need rational street recon- struction policies, sen- stiive to the essential characteristics of the Town. Midland wants responsible leadership at the council level. Too many basic decisions are being left in the hands of the senior staff. I would like to re-establish the leadership responsibility of Council in policy making. At a time of high mill rates, council should set an example of leadership by limiting their own allowances. I will not vote for, nor will I accept any increase in the existing allowances in the 1977-78 term of office. I call on all candidates in this election to make this guarantee to the people of Midland. I believe in open, responsive local govern- ment, solving problems in a reasonable, com- monsense way. casions.
