This is the time now to start planning your activities so that everything is not pushed into the last few weeks before the big day. The lanning is as exciting as the actual preparation in wn home but what about planning for the shut- ; né senior citizens of out area? As the weather gets cruer arid more inclement Betting to the shops becomes a real chore for the handicapped and elderly sababy not when p call your shut-in neighbour and ask her i help her with her hopping list? alcove Siar If your Service Club, Church or organization is plarining a special function for the Seniors or shut-ins please do it early so that the entertainment or what ever you plan is not all squeezed into the few days of Xmas week. Entertainment is good for all of us, it helps alleviate the boredom of every day routine. At xmas time it seems that everyone wants to bring joy to. others less fortunate and I must congratulate the citizens of the Huronia area who have always been so very generous with their time and talents during this busy season, but why not start now, so that it is spread out over a longer period of time and each event can be savoured with more pleasure. This coming weekend the 5 and 6 of November is Poppy Day. Do support the Royal Canadian Legion and buy a poppy. The work the Royal Canadian Legion does is vast the encompasses many facets in the lives and homes- of our veterans and their families. On November 11th. tere will be Cenataph services, and observe a few minutes of silence and in so doing reflect back and say a few words of thanks to the many who gave their lives so freely so that we may live today-in peace and harmony with our fellowman. When I was a child there was no school holiday on November 11th but in its place each school had its own cenotaph service and we remembered:-Today it means nothing to our children, they run 'and shout and play as the bugler plays the last post, not knowing or even caring about what is going on around them. Parents and teachers do take time to tell the children so they too can show their respect to our gallant veterans of the first and second wars. The time is drawing near for Contacts gigantic Garage Sale at the Civic Centre on Saturday November 6th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bring any good used articles to Contact Centre or call 526-9333 and we will arrange to have it picked up. There has been no in- lerrpution of our Meals-on-Wheels program and to Mrs. Suzanne O-Halloran and her staff, Contact and the many recipients of the Meals-on-Wheels program wish to say a very special thank you. October 31st to November 6th has been proclaimed "Energy Conservation Week". What can each of us do to help save this precious commodity of energy? We . hear so much about energy conservation these days. We know it's good for Canada but we forget that it is also a terrific way to save money too. Stop and think each lime we turn on unnecessary lights or turn up the thermostat of the furnace itS just as easy to put'on a sweater and probably much more healthy for us at the same time. Why don't each of you make a check list of where you can help save energy _and at the same time save money. Post the list where all the family can see it and then check each other when you find lights burning or the radio or the T.V. going when no one is using them. This all helps save energy and if each of us try this we will have energy left to share with our children and their children. Happiness Is helping others to help themselves. Call Contact 526-9333.
