We are all well aware of the job shortage and the difficulties of finding gainf ployment. Many of us are puzzled by the quick over the year and of the restraints that hav ' placed upon the various social agencies that in the past: had adequate budgets to embrace summer projects for our youth. While we are unable to improve the situation perhaps a thought should be given to volunteer service in our communities. I pass along a thought provoking letter which was written to one of our daily papers. We have all been wailing about teen-agers not get- ting summer work, and this is too bad for those needing money for university. But wouldn't it be good for them to fill their summer days doing volunteer work for one of the institutions needing people to help? I have two girls who have been moaning that they didn't get accepted for government parks jobs. My husband and I were wondering what they could do to earn money, when it finally occurred to us that they don't need to earn money as much as they need to learn something about the world and themselves. So they have offered themselves for free to help at a camp for retarded children. As they won't be needing money for university for two and three more years, this is the perfect time for them to throw themselves into service. Why don't those who have not got work by the end of June start ap- plying with hospitals, old people's homes, summer camps for handicapped children, and learn something of what it's like to give a little of themselves and get a lot back? Contact is having another 50-50 Draw. It will be drawn on September 6, 1976. The response to our last draw was very heartening and if you purchase a ticket for our draw it will help us financially to continue to keep the Contact Centre open. We need your support.
