Posties change procedure The Midland post office has had to advise its sorters to sort mail ac- cording to the address shown on the envelope, states a press release from the postmaster Mail is going to be processed in a directory or look-up service if it can't be delivered as addressed. "This is going to have drastic results with local mail addressed to old street numbers and mail addressed to holders of post office lock boxes who don't have their box numbers as part of the address", the release states No look-up service will be provided to mail from addresses in Midland for local delivery And because of the high volume of incorrectly or insufficiently addressed mail received for delivery at the Midland post office, "only first class mail and parcels will receive a full directory service and address correction." This will be done on a first in first out basis According to Post- master Fred Grigg, "this action has become necessary in order that we can assure proper service to customers whose mail is properly addressed but who are falling victim to doubts of the sorters who don't know any more what address is right and what is wrong. Problems and corrective action will be handled as they are received and we will do what we can to minimize the impact of this policy."' The release notes that people in Port MeNicoll will have to suffer some inconvenience with the changed box lobby hours. After the third wastebasket fire, it was decided that the lobby had to be locked before there were more serious consequences from the vandalism that the post office has been ex- periencing.
