Use the Classifieds Dear friends, Vandals have been playing havoc in the Waubaushene area these past few weeks. I un- derstand several homes have been broken into. Talking with Mr. Deviney of Ash Street, in Waubaushere, he tells me someone climbed in through his bedroom window and ransacked his house, taking several articles, including his case of beer. Again two days later his car was stolen and found by police with the windshield smashed, Isn't it a hard enough struggle today trying to get by on your pension without having this thrown at you? At this press time I. un- derstand several arrests have been made. February 25 Well, I must say getting up this morning we found a little frost and fog, but around 9 a.m. we knew it was going to be a beautiful day and sure enough, it was. J.M. came into the store for his usual cigarellos and to say that several crows and sea gulls were spotted around the bay. Living in the 'bush' as I do, I have seen the chipmunks and small squirrels coming around. Haven't seen too many birds this year though, something must be Keeping them away. I would like to say that "spring is just around the corner", but I know as you do, we will have a shock one of these days. February 27 Anyone for pea soup or clam chowder? I un- derstand that every Friday evening our branch of the Royal Canadian Legion in Waubaushene hopes to have something going for their members and friends, if all goes well, there will also be musical entertainment. As-I was looking back through 1975, I came upon Result of council's policy Coldwater clerk treasurer Mrs. Arla Miller will leave her position with the village effective March 31. Mrs. Miller's resignation comes after Coldwater council in- troduced a resolution not to allow more than one member of any family to work for the village at one time. Mrs. Miller's daughter Betty, formerly a part time village em- ployee, successfully applied for the new assistant clerk treasurer's job. Miss Miller begins full time employment April 1. Coldwater is presently advertising for a replacement for Mrs. Miller to begin no later than May 1. Coldwater will employ a clerk treasurer and an assistant clerk treasurer. Each employee will work four days with a three day weekend. Coldwater had previously operated with a full time clerk treasurer and part time office help, but council felt the village would be better served. Council felt that if one employee should be forced to leave due to illness or vacation the village affairs could be carried on satisfactorily. Mrs. Miller cited personal reasons and the application of her daughter for a village job as reasons for leaving but stated she couldn't un- derstand why there should be any con- troversy. by E. Lorraine Orr At the annual meeting of the Coldwater Agricultural Society, Mrs. Lorraine Brown was honoured' with the presentation of a Cer- tificate of Merit and a gift from the society. Mrs. Brown had served capably as director of the School Fair for ap- proximately 16 years. This involved the preparation of a program in which the students of the four participating schools could compete with their crafts and hobbies. It also meant the organization of the opening day parade. The head table, in- troduced by Elmer Graitrix, first vice- president, included Walter Orr, second vice- president; Mr. and Mrs. Mia , February, 1976 March, 1976 April, 1976 May, 1976 June, 1976 taxes, irrespective of the amount: Note: This is equal to 8 per cent per annum calculated from Jan. Ist to June 30th, the estimated date of demand of payment of 1976 taxes. Interest 3/2 per cent Interest 3 per cent Interest 2' per cent Interest 2 per cent Interest 12 per cent Wm. A. Hack, Clerk-Treasurer, Midland, Ontario. IN MEMORIAMS IN MEMORIAMS In loving memory of a dear Father and Grand- father, David Martin, who passed away March 17, 1964. There's a rose in memory's garden, That grows because of you, And whenever my heart wanders there, Then that rose blooms anew. Lovingly remembered by Grenville, Adele and Family. Use the Classifieds Hubbard - In loving memory of a_ dear husband, father and grandfather who passed away March 11, 1975. Sadly missed along life's way, Quietly every day. No longer in our life to share, But in our hearts he's always there. Always remembered and forever missed by his wife Leona and Sons, John, Carl, Marshall and Tom. remembered Port MeNicoll School girls' basketball team was runnerup in the Midland . Basketball runners-up Secondary School area basketball = filast pode tour las Williams, the newly appointed secretary-t- reasurer of the Society; president Don Bell and his wife Helen; Mr. and Mrs. Graitrix; and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Edwards. Mr. Edwards is the area's representative on the Simcoe County Board of Education. President Don Bell expressed the opinion of all the executive when he said the 1975 Fair was a definite success, with satisfied exhibitors and a sell-out for the Saturday night dance. He advised that the 1976 Fair Days were October 1 and 2, with the races beginning at 1:30 p.m. on the Saturday. The Mid- way has been booked as well as the orchestra for the Saturday dance. Don thanked the executive and directors as well as the many volunteers who helped with the Fair. Councillor Tom Dean, representative for the Village of Coldwater, extended congratulations to the executive and advised the council would some photos taken of an Vandals causing havoc in Waubaushene area by Bill Turnbull accident on Highway 103. These show what can happen on any highway. Fortunately no one was seriously hurt at this time, but it could have been a real tragedy if the school bus that was in- volved had been stopped. Mr. Raymonsgatim of Waubaushene% s travelling south on High- way 103 and was about to drop off the Tournour children at the Forest Harbour Rd. Luckily the kids Randy, Debbie and Leona were near the front of the bus. Doesn't it make you think? Remember back in July when Fred and Ely Webster of Waubaushene had their home gutted by fire. Talking with the Websters, they hope to move into their new home very soon. Fred has been going hard at it all winter. The new home is built on the same property. We wish you all good luck this time. Yours very truly, Billy Turnbull Coldwater clerk resigns Coldwater Reeve Earl Brandon indicated the Coldwater policy to prevent more than one family member from holding full time village employment was com- mon in other businesses and municipalities as well as the provincial government. The new policy was brought into effect in the village late in February. Coldwater councillors Russ Creighton and Cyril Martin had also resigned from village service last week but their resignations were with- drawn a few days later. Brandon claimed the three _ resignations, coming within the same week, were just a coin- cidence. Lorraine Brown honoured by Coldwater society recently be willing to help in any way possible. Further words of congratulations were extended by Ingram Amos, Reeve of Medonte Twp; Chester Martin, former clerk of Cold- water; Lloyd Dunlop, past president of Elmvale Fair and Jim Hancock, former Agricultural Representataive for Simcoe North. Guest speaker was Ted Maxwell, Area two Superintendent from the County Board of Education. Mr. Maxwell stated that many teachers ask to be placed in a rural school so they may experience the excitement of the Fall Fairs. He advised that the Board of Education, supports the participation of the teachers and students in the fairs. Those attending the dinner, served by the Anglican Church Women Association, enjoyed a trip to China with the aid of the coloured slides, shown by Hunter Russell of Midhurst Bowlers compete Midland YMCA program director Anne Bourgeois congratulates Midland's Jim Thompson, who had the. high single score of 200 in the bowling tournament between the Midland junior team and the Victoria Harbour squad on Saturday.
