Castex cagers lose first of season Monsignor Castex boys and girls basketball teams gave up hope for an undefeated season in the Midland Secondary School area three tour- nament over the weekend. Sacred Heart girls won the top prize with the Parkview Boys taking top honors in their classification. Monsignor Castex girls were able to thump Victoria Harbour 40-6 in the opening game but were nudged 18-10 in a Basketball is starting to near the end of the season in our area, but this just means that the action and ex- citement increases. The public school boys met at Midland Secondary School last Saturday to decide the tournament champions in Area 3 and when it was all said and done, Parkview came out on top, having defeated Monsignor Castex 28-15 in the final game. The Parkview team from left to right, in the front, they are tight second match with Sacred Heart. Sacred Heart went on to drop Bayview and Huronia Centennial for the championship. Castex boys went to the final after dropping Corpus Christi in a 30-24 game then went on to defeat Port MeNicoll 30- 20. Parkview stormed Castex in the final. Margaret Hamelin, Gina Gianetto and John Quilty were outstanding for the Castex sides. Elementary basketball champs Wilson Cowen, Doug Lynn, Glen Howard, Andrew Simpson and Steve Friesen. David Robitaille added a single and Drew Dusome chalked up a goal and an assist in the game. Peter Roi drew two assists, and Terry Pilon and Trent Maracle each assisted on one goal. The search is on for Big Sisters Big Sisters of Huronia is still in its infancy, but at a recent meeting, it was reported that already several big and little sister matches have been made. Now the group is seeking more Big Sisters to add to its resources. Although Midland lost to Victoria Harbour by some odd 700 points they all walked away winners. -Midland came through with trophies to Jim Thompson 200 points for high single, Angie Grasic 406 points high double and Chad Mansi 354 pts. for high double. Girls high single went to Nancy Ramsbottom for her score of 190 points. Angie Brusseau of Victoria Harbour accepted the top team trophy which will be played for each and every year in our annual tournament. On behalf of the Midland Y.M.C.A.
