Two of the alarms were for grass fires in town. The other alarm turned out to be a false alarm as the cause was steam rather than smoke under a car hood. Ontario Beef Calf Income Stabilization Program We have recently received details on the Beef Calf Income Stabilization Program of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food. The program is voluntary but par- ticipating producers must join the program for five years. A new contract and completed each year. Participating _ produ- cers will pay an annual fee per beef cow. For 1975 the fee is $5 per cow. This fee does not have to be paid 'until January 31, 1976. The cow count is based on cows which have produced a calf as of July 1. Cows producing fluid or industrial milk are ineligible. In return for the $5 per cow fee the beef calf producer gets a_ price guarantee per pound for his stockér calves. The guarantee is designed to cover operating cost plus a percentage of fixed cost on an efficient operation. This fall an actual price will be established by taking the weighted market price of Ontario produced stock calves. This price will be based on sales at major Ontario selling points. A payment will be made if the actual price is lower than the 50 cent guarantee on a 450-Ib Holstein Club to meet July 24 cent calf crop. A payment is_ best explained by an example. In a year of a 50 cent guarantee, and a 40 cent actual price, the payment would amount to 87 per cent of 450-Ibs. times the 10 cent different. The payout per cov this example, would bé@938.25. Current market in- formation on feed grains, fruit and vegetables, hogs and sheep and farm weather is available by dialing a Toronto telephone number.
