Indians snap losing streak by downing Orillia 7-6 on Sunday Ross Cousineau's run- scoring single with two out at the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Midland Indians a hard fought 7-6 decision over the Orillia Juniors Sun- day night before the largest crowd of the season at the Midland ball park. The Indians had taken what looked like a commanding 5-0 lead in the first inning, but by the fourth were on top by only a slim 6-5 margin. The visiting juniors managed to tie it up again at the top of the final inning, setting the stage for Cousineau's game-wi- nning hit. Starting things off in the first inning, third baseman Chester Graham's solid double into centrefield with the bases loaded sent Ken Fox and Ron Spiker across home plate. Orillia pitcher Jerry Wyngrove dealt a walk to Bill Beauchamp and _ struck out Al Gignac, before a fielding error on Gary Hamelin's grounder allowed three more to score. Cousineau was struck out to end further scoring in the inning. The Juniors managed one run in the second inning on a double by Mick Dunlop which sent Wyngrove home. Only a good throw by centrefielder Al Gignac and put out at the plate by Indians' catcher Kevin Timmons prevented a second run from scoring. Starting pitcher for the Indians Bob Dyment struck out Orillia's Frank Tulimand to end the in- ning. The score remained at 5-1 until the fourth inning as the Juniors struck for four runs. With two out, Dyment walked two and gave up a hit to load the bases, before Greg Thompson drew another walk sending one runner home to score. Jerry Cunningham's _ single coupled with an Indians' error sent three more Juniors across the plate. Coming in to replace Dyment, relief pitcher Chester Graham finished out the inning. On base on a walk in the fourth, Ken Fox stole second and moved to third on Spiker's grounder, before scoring on Kevin Timmons' triple. Orillia's Steve Jones doubled at the top of the seventh, but failed to score on teammate Jerry Wyngrove's hit on a brilliant put out at home plate by Indians' catcher Timmons. Wyngrove however, scored on a hard hit double off the bat of Brian Tremaine, before Indians' hurler struck out two to end the inning. With the score tied at the bottom of the final inning, men on first and third, and two out, Graham _ scored the winning run, as Cousineau came up with his clutch hit down the first base line. With that win, the Indians snapped three- game losing streak and improved their record to four wins, nine losses, and one tie. Did you have your picture in the Paper ? Letter to the editor Dear Sir: When Mr. Eldge Quesnelle and his wife Theresa decided to leave the North West basin to go to Penetanguishene we were concerned. They have lived in this area for many years and on leaving it we thought they would die of loneliness. However, both are members of the North West Basin Senior Citizen Club and they have maintained a great interest in our activities. Mrs. Quesnelle has been busy making mats and other things for us to raffle off enabling us to bring in $140. for club projects. Recently I learned that she says she loves Penetanguishene. But she remains willing to help with whatever she can at the North West Basin. She's a great sport and we wish her the best of health.
