Citizen sports beat Second section Wednesday, July 2, 1975 LN Girls diamond - Reds vs Cardinals ecreatior Scene by Ron Marchildon < Penetanguishene recreation coordinator This Sunday, July 6th will see the completion of play in three house leagues in our minor softball program. Games will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue until about 4:00 p.m. We would like to personally thank all the coaches, umpires, equipment people and the players who combined to make this year very successful. This has been a very disappointing week where our summer programs are concerned. It is unfortunate that registrations are very low for all programs offered by the Recreation Department. It makes one feel that people really do not want to have organized recreation during the summer months. Please, it is not too late to register for tennis, swimming and sailing. Please do so immediately and help make these programs successful. The swimming and sailing programs will both begin on July 7th rather than during the holiday week, so please keep this in mind. Anita Dubeau has just finished instructing a group of ladies in a Ceramic Glazing Course. The indications are that this was very rewarding to the participants. Another course is being set up to begin on July 8 - for further information please contact Anita. The Penetanguishene Red Sox and Cardinals ladies baseball teams held a very successful draw for 100 gallons of gas over the weekend. The two teams would like to thank all those people who supported this project and we hope you will continue to do so in the months ahead. During the past. week Anne earned number one ranking in the 12-years- old and under girls division for tennis in Ontario. She did that by winning the Etobicoke Junior Tennis Tour- nament which was held in four different locations in Toronto. Both advanced on a wild throw, before Ron Spiker popped out to first and Kevin Timmons fouled out to the right fielder. Successive walks to Bill Beauchamp and_ retur- ning veteran Chester Graham brought home one run and set up right fielder Ross Cousineau, whose solid single to centrefield sent two more across home plate. Left fielder Gary Hamelin's ground ball got through the Creemore short stop's legs to bring in another run, but men on second and third, Grant Duroches_ struck out to end the Indians' threat.
