Staff photo French health services The French Language Health Services Task Force invites the public to submit briefs on health services in French in Ontario. The eight- member Task Force will also hold public hearings in various centres star- ting in September. The group was created by an Order-in-Council earlier this year to study the effects of language on the quality of health services provided. to French-speaking citizens of the Province of Ontario. Recognizing the fact that language difficulties may affect the quality of LS at services presently provided in Ontario, the Task Force will endeavor to identify where health services are not readily available or accessible due to language dif- ficulties and recommend courses of action to im- prove the availability and accessibility of services. Members have already met in Toronto on four occasions to study these areas of activities and to launch research projects related to their study. They plan to travel to selected centres in Ontario to gather in- formation. But chairman Dr. Jacques Dubois, of Welland, states that the most important aspect of their study is the sub- mission of briefs by groups of individuals throughout Ontario. ' "Our Task Force is people-oriented,"' expl- ains the chairman. 'We want the people, in- dividually or in groups, to tell us what they feel is needed and to make recommendations." Briefs should be ad- dressed to the French Language Health Ser- vices Task Force, 7th Floor, Hepburn Block, Queen's Park, Toronto, before September 8. People or groups wishing to appear before the Task Force should also contact the Toronto office. Arrangements will be made to hold public hearings in communities where there are requests for personal submissions before the Task Force. The co-ordinator for the Task Force is Jean Guy Bigras, formerly of the Ministry of Treasury, Economics and Intergovernmental Affairs.
