Citizen sports beat Recreation Scene by Ron Marchildon 4 Penetanguishene recreation coordinator We would like people to start picking up registration forms for swimming lessons as well as our day camp program. We would certainly hope both of these programs are essential to a young child growing up in the vicinity of water. It is important that a child not only learn to swim, but also learn to swim properly while acquiring an awareness of the many water safety rules. So please register your child early. We are also contemplating running a tiny tots program and an adults program if the interest is there. Our minor soccer program got off the ground the other night. Wally Meisinger is still looking for some adult help with the peewee team. He assures me the team is looking real good. I would like to ask everyone's co-operation in helping us keep the parks in a respectable condition. If you see anyone defacing or abusing the parks in any way please contact the police to correct this situation. Olympia's' Bobby Valentine drove in the tying and game winning runs in the bottom of the fifth inning when he belted a triple with two men on base and two outs. That gave Olympia a 6-5 lead which they increased to 7-5 before the end of the fifth by driving Valentine home. Olympia then added a single run in the bottom of the sixth to finish the scoring John Stamp was the winning pitcher while the Expo's Bert Thompson took the loss. Thompson had entered the game to relieve Lloyd Leroux who walked the first five batters he faced in the bottom half of the opening frame. That enabled Olympia Sports to tie the game up at 2-2. In the top half of the first, three hits came when there were two outs. At the end of three innings both teams were locked in a 4-4 tie. The game was decided in the fifth inning. In the top of the fifth John Dion reached first base on an error, stole second, and raced home on a double by John Moreau. That gave the Expos a short lived 5-4 lead which they surrendered in the bottom of the fifth. The complete list of all GBFL games is published on the following sports page. Results from games played last night will be reported in next week's Citizen.
