a a Talent show kicks off Elmvale Maple Syrup Festival by Shirley Whittington There was a great variety of talent on display in Elmvale last Friday night - everything from an acrobatic dance by a supple seven-year-old to a sweet song by a maple tree who claimed to be 126 years old. The Talent Show and Contest kicked off the annual Maple _ Syrup Festival. Master of ceremonies Fred Traynor from Barrie's CKBB introduced each number on the program and interviewed each of the queen contestants throughout the evening. Junior contestants in the talent show were Bonnie Lawson, tap dancer; Lorraine Jessome, tap dancer; singing duo Jane Windrem and Carol Allen; dancer Tina Reevie, and singer Kerry Dove. Performing in the teen category were Cindy and Jean Kelley, singers; Nancy Trace, baton soloist, accordianist Prima Jean Forget; pianist Susie Jay and Eileen Rutherford's Triple T's. Adult performers were Ernest Moreau, monologist; Frank Hall who sang about walking his baby, Margaret and John Potts folk singers; Sally McGill, soprano, and John Curry, the singing maple tree. Judges Raymond Holt, Sophia Coull, Lloyd Gabriel and Shirley Whittington awarded first prize in the children's division to Jane second, Prize winners in the adult division were Mary and John Potts, first and Ernest Moreau, second and Carol Windrem and Carol Allen.
