The members of the losing DesRochers were: Fred DesRochers (skip), Bob Bald (vice), Denis O'Leary (second) and Bob Ruston (lead). It was age and experience over youth and drive, as rinks skipped by two brothers clashed in the finals of the Thursday night men's curling championship roung at the Penetanguishene Curling Club last week. The rink skipped by John DesRochers edged younger brother Fred's rink 3-2 in one of the closest games of the curling season. The match went a full 12 ends. This was a double elimination tour- nament. The first two place finishers in each division go on to the GBSSA finals. PSS's Rob Berdan who is rated among the best in Ontario, teamed up with one of the best girls, Angela Wesser, to capture the mixed doubles championship. Berdan and Wesser defeated Elmvale's Stewart and Desrochers in the first game 21-1. They went on to beat S. Jebb an&J. Lloyd of Park Street 15-6 and 15-1 and Midland Secondary School's Richard Thorpe and Chris Lafreniere 15-2, 15-0. In the finals they beat out S. Jebb and J. Lloyd again 15-1 and 15-3. Girls doubles teams comprised of Mary Sue Beatty and Cathy Payne of PSS and Michelle LaPlume and Beth Murphy of St. Theresa's qualified for the GBSSA Beatty and Payne defeated Schumacher and Steeh 21-2; MSS's Lori Courtemanche and Lynn Swales 15-3, 15-1 and Michelle LaPlume and Beth Murphy 15-0, 15-4. This qualified them for the finals. LaPlume and Murphy went on to defeat Fowlie and Bradd of Orillia District 21- 6; Birch and Macey of MSS 15-7 and 15-8, to make the finals against the PSS team. Payne and Beatty proved a little too much for the St. Theresa's LaPlume and Murphy beating them 15-4 and 15-1. championship. - CWL bowling results Annette Robitaille's team totalled the highest number of points, (2,115), in the double game _ semi-final playdowns of the Ladies of St. Ann's bowling league last Thursday at the Knights of Columbus Bowling Lanes. The second place team was led by Marion Axton. Her team netted 1,9040 points in two games. These two teams; Annette Robitaille's and Marion Axton's, will meet for the playoff final on Thursday. Play gets underway at 2 p.m. The remaining four teams were eliminated from the playoffs last Thursday. Finishing in third place was Vi Robitaille's team with a two game total of 1,864 points. Fourth place went to Florestine Dupuis' team with 1,862 points. Eva Secord's team finished in fifth spot with a 1,838 point total. Alma Desjardin's team finished in last place with 1,777 points. The boys singles was the most exciting to watch. Frank Berdan of PSS easily made the finals. The semi- finals between Wayne Markham of St. Theresa's and John Keays of Orillia District for the last spot in the GBSSA finals brought fans to their feet screaming and yelling for their favorite. Keays defeated Markham 15-13 in the first game, but Markham shot back with a 15-13 decision to tie the best out of three series up. The two tied in the final game at 14-14 to force a set of three. Can you believe it, they tied that up too. A fourth game was played with Keays emerging the winner. Frank Berdan was given the final game by Keays due to tiredness. Before that Berdan defeated Thomas of Orillia District 21-0; MSS's Mark Rintoul 15-10, 15-4 and John Keays 15-3, 15-1. MSS's Susan Gauthier who won the GBSSA last year has a chance to take top honors this year. Gauthier defeated Marsha Mitzak 15-8; PSS's Karen Yule 11-0, 11-0 and Elizabeth Moriz, also of PSS, 11-6, 11-7. Moriz than defeated Karen Yule to give her another shot at Gauthier in the finals. Gauthier came out on top winning 11-1, loosing her second 14-11, and capturing the third game 14- 10. So Elizabeth Moriz and Susan Gauthier will advance to the GBSSA final. Penetanguishene has two boys doubles teams going to the GBSSA finals. Dan St. Amant and Pierre Belcourt defeated Chris Robitaille and Bob Harrison 15-7, 15-12 in the final match. hockey camp.
