LANDSCAPING SNOW REMOVAL GENERAL CONTRACTOR ELMVALE 322-2545 Industrial, Commercial, Residential Complete Year Around Maintenance insurance paid Last year, 1974, the Crop Insurance Commission paid out a record $5.5 million in claims to farmers growing corn. This large claims payment is a direct result of the ad- verse season. Late plantings and early frost made 1974 one of the worst corn years in memory. Last year there were 4,544 farmers participating in the corn insurance plan. With material costs over $70 per acre this spring, there will probably be more par- ticipants in 1975. How does corn insurance work? A farmer can choose one of three price options: $2.60 per bushel - $4.40 per acre; $1.95 per bushel - $3.30 per acre; $1.30 per bushel - $2.20 per acre. Under the plan a farmer is guaranteed a _ certain number of bushels per acre based on his past yields and claim experience. If his actual production is less than his guaranteed production, crop insurance pays the difference at the price option chosen. If you would like the name of the crop insurance agent for your area, call the ministry office at 322-2231. Limestone Available in Simcoe County Many farmers have inquired about the purchase of agricultural limestone for use on their cropland. Good quality agricultural lime is available at McKean's Quarries, south of Collingwood. It is a finely ground product containing both magnesium and calcium. The cost of the lime is $5 per ton, the spreading charge is $1.50 per ton, and the delivery charge is $1.10 per ton for the first 10 miles and 6 cents per ton-mile thereafter. If you live 30 miles from the quarry, your cost will be $8.80 per ton, delivered and spread. Orders should be placed a week in advance.
