| Hani Rodeers Where's thecow? It's hard to tell whether or not councillor Mary Rogers is kidding even when she begins her speeches with a footnote warning everyone some Rogerian humour is to follow. To understand the climate in which the following Rogerian remarks. at Monday's town council meeting were made you must realize that Rogers was very impressed with the newly formed Penetanguishene Centennial Committee. "It can't help but be a bang up success" she exclaimed before telling the members of council, the assembled press, and her audience, 'I will lead the cow down the main street drag, complete with milking stool'? (for the Centennial parade). Lookout Betsy.....here she comes! er Raymond French is useful It is worthwhile for French Canadian students to con- mye attending schools where the language of in- struction is French. That's the message Getard Raymond, chairman of the council for French language Schools in Ontario, carried to the Penetanguishene area during visits - to Penetanguishene Secondary' School, Ecole St. Joseph's, St. Croix, Lafontaine, and Canadian Martyrs School in Perkinsfield. Building report A report submitted by the town's building inspector for Monday's council meeting shows that while the number of housing starts and other construction was slightly down for 1974 the total value of the building activity was up over last year. The following is Bryan Byng's report. Housing starts decreased by 3 while the value of the homes decreased by $24,020. While the housing starts decreased, the average " value per house increased from $23,080. in 1973 to $24,758. in 1974. This represents a value increase per house of $1,678. Industrial expansions also increased in value and number. In 1973, the average industrial permit value was $49,018. while in 1974 the average permit value was $61,091. This represents an increase in permit value of $12,073. Residential extensions decreased in 1974, however the average value per permit issued increased from $2,409. In 1973 to $3,688. in 1974. oe While the Institutional permits remained the same, the value of construction \ increased considerably. This "can be attributed to the v Senior Citizens building * which was constructed in 1974 on Gignac Drive. Commerical construction decreased by 10 permits but increased in value by $20,650. The explanation for this is that the majority of 1973 Commerical permits were for minor renovations and repairs while in 1974 the majority of the total value of construction is tied to the , Mike's Milk Building, constructed on Main Street.
