Designers to contact owners on store fronts Main Street store owners will be contacted in February about specific st- ore front proposals ac- cording to a letter from an official at Canadian Pitt- sburgh Industries Limited. The letter was delivered to the president of the Penetanguishene Chamber of Commerce, Peter Shirriff, late last week. In it Neal Jotham, manager of technical ser- vices at Canadian Pitt- sburgh's Toronto office states that he hopes a co- ordinated effort could begin on operation facelift (painting, renovating, etc. the fronts of downtown stores) by late March or April. Towards the end of last summer officials from Canadian Pittsburgh Industries came to Penetanguishene, on the invitation of the Chamber of Commerce, and spent two weeks drawing up preliminary sketches of the east side of Main Street between Robert and the post office to give merchants a general idea of what could be accomplished under a facelift program. In essence, Operation Facelift provides a colour co- ordinated scheme _ for downtown storefronts which allows a great deal of flexibility as to the in- volvement of the individual merchant. Merchants are free to choose not to paint or renovate their store fronts but the pro-face lift forces - hope the benefits of the program will be obvious, and Math whizzes van pss Students from Penetanguishene's Burkvale, St. Joseph's and Corpus Christi elementary schools along with representatives of Midland's Bayview School pose for their Another Substation A new $250,000 Ontario Hydro substation servicing the Sunnyside and the Huronia Mall, Zellers- Dominion area on Highway 27. Brownie probes Mayor Eight-year-old Clair Cadeau couldn't stop asking questions when Mayor Vince Moreau visited the second Penetanguishene Brownies pack last Wednesday at St. Ann's Church. Brown Owl (Brownie leader) Pat Ladouceur said the conference with the mayor was part of the Brownies new emphasis on community involvement. This is the 65th year since Lord and Lady Baden Powell founded the Brownies organization in England. If they had seen and heard little Clair Cadeau pepper the Mayor with questions ranging from how to stop littering to why did he want to be mayor, Lord and Lady Powell would have felt their efforts were all worthwhile. One thing Clair couldn't understand was "why people don't put their junk in gar- bage bags."' While the Mayor couldn't answer the question he did say he hoped that as they grew up, Brownies maintain their concern over keeping the streets clean. Clair said she would. pictures after a Penetanguishene School last week. Joan Robitaille holds the trophy, won by the St. Josephs' team. Existing French programming from CJBC Radio and CBC-TV -in Toronto will service this area he said. Currently it is possible to get CJBC Radio, but French TV coverage (CBCFT channel 25) will be new and radio reception should be improved. English AM radio reception will also be beefed up through this expansion program Brickenden said. The Huronia area will continue to be serviced by the CBC-TY outlet in Barrie which is CKVR-TV. Not all R.R.S.P%s are alike. Consider the Toronto Dominion Retirement Savings Deposit. Use the classifieds The TD RSD is a bank deposit. That's the big differ- ence. Its high-yielding interest rate is adjusted twice yearly to match that of the TD five-year Certificate of Deposit. Ana you never have to worry about fluctuations in the market value of stocks and bonds as you would with some other R.R.S.P.'s. Finally, there's no interest penalty for deregistering your TD RSD at any time. As with all R.R.S.P.'s, eligible annual contributions are deductible from your current taxable income -- up to $4,000 in some cases. So depending on your circumstances, the 1974 income tax you defer can be substantial. The money you put into a TD RSD works hard to earn more money for you. For example, if you start your TD RSD at age 35 and contribute $1,500 at the beginning of each year, you'll have put in $45,000 by the time you're 65. ee a conservative rate of return over the 30 years of 713% per annum, compounded semi-annually, your savings will have grown to $171,277! Your TD Manager is the:person to ask about-a TD Retire- ment Savings Deposit. You'll get all the facts, and you'll be pleased to know that you-can start for as little as $250 with contributions of $100 or more whenever you wish.
