The inoculations, which were administered by Dr. Rohani at the fire station last Wednesday evening, are part of a new initiative across the province to safeguard fire fighters from the disease. SOOOOOOOSD Fire Chief Pete Doig says that, according to govern- ment statistics, one in five people exposed to the hepati- tis virus develop the disease, compared with an infection rate of only one in 1,000 for the HIV virus. Barber goes on to say that the association wrote Premier Bob Rae, appealing to him to meet with them to discuss pos- sible solutions to the impasse over the proposed regulations. "We have made it very clear to the premier that we do not condone the refusal of some members of our forces to carry out lawful orders," said Barber. "However, we cannot ignore the fact that the manner in which this regulation was finally developed has triggered unprecedented frustration in police officers and police administrations throughout the province." Officers across the province would be affected by the new regulations, since it is provin- cial legislation.
