Page 9, News, Tuesday, June 16, Rossport group taking over dock Fisheries and Oceans has entered into a lease with the Rossport Area Conservation and Development Group (RACDG) for management of the Government Dock in Ross- port. The RACDG has approved a four member group to serve as the Rossport Dock Commit- tee (RDC) on their behalf. This group is comprised of Rose Marie Renaud, Alison Collins, Dave Tamblyn and Jim Van den Ende. Previously, Van den Ende ran the dock himself, says committee member Rose Marie Renaud. "And he gave it up, so the RACDG took it over, repre- senting the people of Ross- port," she says. The objective of the RDC is to carry out the rules and regu- lations of the lease, as well as to work toward obtaining ser- vices required at the dock and the surrounding area. The RDC has approached Fisheries and Oceans with a list of requirements, including: a pump out; wheelchair acces- sibility to floating dock; a water line; public washrooms; a garbage facility; upgrading of electrical systems; improved lighting; maintenance to the Fisheries and Oceans building; and supplies for landscaping. "We don't know what they're going to cost yet, we just know what we want," says Rose Marie Renaud. Making the Rossport Dock and the surrounding area look more inviting will be beneficial not only for attracting tourists, but for the local residents as well.
