Terrace Bay PSB meets for the first two times by Darren MacDonald The News The first two meetings of the Terrace Bay Police Ser- vices Board (PSB) were held last Monday and Thursday in Council chambers in Terrace Bay. Councillor John St. Amand was voted PSB Chairman. Reeve Jim Ziegler is also on the board, as is Mike Gould and Doug Roberts. Karen Moskwa is expected to be appointed to the PSB by the province, and until then, she will sit in on the meetings as an observer. The first two meetings dealt mainly with trying to establish operating proce- dures, such as renumeration rates, travelling expenses and the hiring of a secretary. At Thursday's meeting, Terrace Bay Police Services Chief Wes Fenton presented the 1992 budget proposals to the board. continued on page 2 NOACC Spring Conference seeks new relationship with labour groups by Darren MacDonald The News The Northwestern Ontario Chamber of Commerce (NOACC) took the unusual step of inviting three members of the labour movement to its annual spring conference, held in Terrace Bay last week end. IWA Canada President Wilf McIntyre, Canadian Public Ser- vice Union member Karen Saumur, and UPIU Local 665 President Don Lavigne joined in discussions with chamber delegates. "We had fears about coming here today, as I'm sure some of you did," Wilf McIntyre told delegates in an opening address. "But that's something we have to try and get over." MclInytre also said that if Canadians hope to compete on the global market, business and labour will have to develop a better relationship. In Europe, McIntyre said, labour and busi- ness have forged a productive working relationship. "TI think we're going to have to open our minds and work together," he said. "I think it's worth a shot to try and put that kind of working relationship in place."
