Page 2, News, Tuesday, March 24, 1992 Community briefs Schreiber roads budget Schreiber has submitted a budget of $182,000 to the Ministry of Transportation for subsidy in 1992. This includes $6,000 for a new plow and $7,000 for curbing. The Township also applied for $26,000 of supple- mentary funding. Non-subsidizable capital works, including $10,000 for sidewalk repair, $8,000 for paving Peary Street and $10,000 for storm sewers, are being considered. Also included in the roads budget is $4,300 for the Handi-Transit bus service. The cost is being shared with Terrace Bay, and is being sub- sidized by the Ministry of Transportation. The budget was presented to Council March 17. Lions Clubs chooses Timmy -- Terrace Bay/Schreiber's 1992 Easter Seals Timmy--Christopher Ballan- tine--celebrated his sixth birthday on March 16 by doing more than wishing. Christopher, along with other Easter Seal children and their parents, joined members of the local Lion's Club and their families in preparing for the 1992 Easter Seals cam- paign. The group spent the evening preparing contribu- tion envelopes to be mailed to the residents of Schreiber and Terrace Bay. Residents can either mail back the envelopes, or drop them off at the Tourist Information Centre April 4. The Lions hope to raise $2,500 this year for their East- er Seals children. Adrian Teodorescu, Filane's personal coach, says the boxer is in "excellent" shape for the trials. "He's more mature," said Teodorescu. "He knows how to handle the mental stress of the international competi- tions." Right now, Teodorescu said Filane's technique is the- main focus during training sessions. "His technical skill is the number one ingredient that he has," said the coach. Filane will also have an extra ingredient though. Teodorescu will be in his cor- ner throughout the tourna- ment, and Filane said that will help boost his confidence. Filane working for Olympic berth "This is a crucial tourna- ment," said Filane. "You always dream of the Olympics as a kid." The entire Canadian box- ing team has been training at a marine base in North Car- olina since March 16. With no outside distractions, Filane will concentrate on adding the finishing touches to his strate- 8y. "When we go (to the Dominican Republic), we'll know what we have to do," said Teodorescu. But Filane said he has always known what has to be done. "T've got to win. That's all there is to do," he said. "T've imagined myself on the final day with my hands in the air, the Canadian flag up and me standing on the podium."
