TERRACE BAY CANADA DAY YOUTH AWARD The Canada Day Youth Award is designed to recognize and reinforce the out- standing achievements and contributions of young people to their communities and, by extension, to the betterment of Canada. You or your organization may wish to nominate a candidate for this award. Potential recipients must be 18 years of age or younger and have made a con- tribution in one or more of the following areas: . 1) Community Participation involvement through an organization or an individual activity that has resulted in positive benefits to another individual, a group or to the commu- nity at large (for example: coaching, tutoring, assisting with activities for residents of a seniors' lodge; and working with children or home-bound individuals); Promotion of Canadian Values participation in activities that serve to broaden a sense of common national pupose and values and foster national unity (for example: programs to promote greater exchange - respect, co-operation and equality between groups of people; literacy awareness and advancement: the removal of barriers to disadvantaged people - such as physical, attitudinal, social or economic barriers and volunteerism); Environmental Initiatives involvement in activities to preserve and protect our environment and to increase awareness of environmental issues (for example: initiating recy- Cling programs, organizing clean-up campaigns and implementing tree- planting initiatives). You are invited to submit a nomination by completing and forwarding the attached form to Dean Main - Recreation Co-ordinator, P.O. Box 460, Terrace 'Bay, Ontario POT 2WO Nomination forms are available at Lake Superior High School, Terrace Bay Public School, St. Martin's School, Municipal Office and Terrace Bay Recreation Centre. Nomination Deadline is Friday, April 3rd, 1992. Awards will be decided by the Ontario Canada Day Committee. SsuCCeSS The Schreiber Legion held its mixed Sweetheart Bonspiel Feb. 14 and 15. The fun began on Friday with 16 rinks participating. Bill Collinson, President of the branch, threw out the first rock with Auxiliary President Earline Johnson sweeping it. Winners in the A event were Roy Davis's rink, with Michelle Godin third, Butch St. Jean second, and Tracy Simmer lead. Runner up in the A division was the Jayne Santerre rink. In third place was Ray Wilson Sr. rink, and fourth was Chris Hewson rink. The Cory Fisher rink won the B event with Connie Bryson third, Bob McKenna second and Colleen Gauthier lead. Runner up in the B event was the Jody Davis rink. Third runner up was the Judy Davis rink, and fourth was Jim 7 Bryson's rink. The C event winner was | Albert Ray's rink, with Andy Miller third, Joceylin Winters second and Marie Fortier lead. Runner up in the C event was Paul Gauthier's rink. Third runner up in the C event was | Pat Hanolen's rink, and Jackie + Wilson's rink was fourth. There's something for everyone in the newspaper... Something interesting. Fun. Informative.
