If it's a dog, he shouldn't be loose in the first place--unless it was an accident. If it's a cat, they usually can find their own way home, unless they are hurt or there is a snow storm, which can affect their sense of direction. When you discover your pet is missing, there are many things you can do. First, take a look around your own area. Look under porches in your yard and the neighbour's yards. If it's a cat, check under car hoods and under wheel wells--these are favourite places for cats that are frightened or lost. Leave scented articles in an ever widening circle in a one mile area. This will help your dog get a perspective of his home area. Also, call the police. It's sur- prising how many people report finding dogs to the police. Call your local dog catcher or town hall to see if anyone has reported finding a lost pet. Call public works offices. They may be able to tell you if your dog was seen on the high- way. Call your local radio stations, schools, etc. Children are great for spreading the news of a lost pet. If your pet is purebred, call the Canadian Kennel Club and give them your pet's tattoo number--they can keep it in their missing/found file. Put up posters at post offices, grocery stores, movie theatres, and other public places. Most importantly, do every- thing you can to prevent your pet from becoming lost in the first place. Fr. If it were known that the Haggis was really just a small porcupine animal, souvenir collectors would be trying to nab one to take them home Haggisreallya porcupine-like animal with them. In an attempt to preserve the little critters, the story of the Haggis being made of sheep's innards was invented. If you can make something gruesome enough, no one will have the (pardon the pun) stomach for it. My apologies if fortune- hunting foreigners descend on.
