G.S.T. | Broker New Fire Schreiber-Terrace Bay Band Camp 1991 Ross-far Terrace Bay By Darren MacDonald The News Nestor Trach has been cho- sen by Fown Council to become the new fire chief of the Terrace Bay Fire Depart- ment, effective Nov. 1. Trach has a two-year con- tract with the town, and will be paid an initial salary of $5,700 a year, subject to an annual review by Council. The position has been vacant -- since former Chief Rollie MoQuin resigned. Trach was the only person considered for the job of leading the 22 mem- ber volunteer force. Two deputy fire chiefs have also been appointed; Ken Benoit and Moe Stark also ~ have two year contracts, and will be paid $3,950 for their services. At full strength, the Terrace Bay force has 25 members, including the Chief and the two deputies. All sides in the dispute say they are pleased with the agreement. "I feel very good about the settlement," Cano said Wednesday. "I've missed my job." "We were supposed to meet with board members from the Ontario Labour Relations "The company said they wanted to settle this without going to the board. . . it took a great deal of coopera- tion between both par- ties." Union Rep. Gary Talrico ae Se a Board today (Wednesday)," said Gary Talrico, International Representative for the union. "But we managed to come to an agreement without them, so we took them to the airport so they could fly back to Toronto." Talrico said that prior to the agreement, there had been no indication management was willing to settle the case with- out the help of the board. "No, there wasn't. "Their official reason (for laying her off) was that she wouldn't accept alternate work," said Talrico. "But there was no alternate work offered."
