David C. Fulton Clerk and Returning Officer -<Township of Terrace Bay COMMUNITY DTTORS arena Conviction overturned A Terrace Bay police con- stable has -- successfully appealed his conviction on charges of common assault while on duty. Constable Glen Krentz was sentenced last March to 14 days in jail after an incident involving Melody Mateev, of Terrace Bay, on Aug. 4, 1990. Krentz was suspended from the force for a week, but still retained his Constable First Class designation. He immediately appealed his assault conviction, and it was overturned in Thunder Bay District Court Sept. 25. "It's long overdue," Krentz said Friday, adding he never had any doubt he would be aquitted. Melody Mateev said Friday she didn't know if she could take further action against Krentz, but she's glad he didn't go to jail. "T had to fight for what I believed in," said Mateev. After a three-year wait, it looks like disabled residents of Schreiber and Terrace Bay can finally look forward to increased mobility. Both the Schreiber and Ter- race Bay Town Councils have agreed to make a formal request to the Ministry of Transportation for a grant to operate a Handi-Transit bus. The bus would transport dis- abled persons in and around Terrace Bay and Schreiber. The Ministry has indicated it will approve the application. All that remains is for the Handi-Transit Advisory Com mittee to give the Thunder Bay Home for the Aged, who will be providing the bus, a pro- posed bus schedule. New const.
