"The Government of} Canada had finally realized the disastrous effect of the MOU on the Canadian econ- omy," Belair said. "I have been pressuring the Mulroney government to take action conceming this unfair surtax for the past three years," he continued. He said the Conservative's failure to recognize that the circumstances had dramati- cally changed since the 1986 agreement (Canadian dollar vis-a-vis the U.S. dollar has - increased: 72 cents in 1986 to 87 cents in 1991) has result- ed in thousands of lay-offs in Northern Ontario and across the country. In March 1991, Jean Chre- tien, leader of the Liberal Opposition, wrote to the Prime Minister saying that negotiations with the United States to negotiate the MOU had been underway for more than one year and that he was deeply concerned over the lack of progress made by the Government. Chretien indi- cated that it was important that this issue be resolved quickly. ing Centre has been owned Apprenticeship in North Bay. l abasic inc an lm: Age aie With Summer upon us We also have wenete TERRACE BAY INSU = comptv rate on: competitive rates for: a ~ 4 - Sailboat - Motorcycle both 6 & Home * Business * Auto - a 12 month policies - Vacation Trailers - Motor Homes ecee - All Terrain Vehicles COMPETITIVE RATES FOR QUALITY COVERAGE A COMPLETE INSURANCE SERVICE * Cottages SIMCOE PLAZA TERRACE BAY 825 - 3246 * Recreational Vehicles * Etc. - Seasonal Dwellings - Phone fora rate Today!
