Ronkainen's Pharmacy in Terrace Bay was broken into sometime between the evening hours of August. 1 and early morning of August 2, 1991. The crime was reported to the Terrace Bay Police Force at 8:45 a.m., August 2. Constable McCracken attended. "Store owner Tarmo Ronkainen came in to open up the store and observed some suspicious circumstances that led him to suspect a break-in," said Wes Fenton, Terrace Bay's Chief of Police. "It appears that the culprit(s) cut the telephone lines on the exterior of the building," said Fenton. The culprits entered the building by forcing the lock on the front door. The lock was twisted so that it could be re- locked from the inside. "Once inside, the culprits attacked the drug dispensary at the rear of the store. They cleared out a number of mild narcotics," said Fenton. The exact amounts and value - of the drugs taken has not yet been determined. Lionel Waghorn, a pharma- cist at the shop, said that the theft caused some problems in filling prescription orders. "We had to borrow some drugs from the hospital and put in orders [to suppliers] right away," he said. Waghorn added that in some cases, doctors had to prescribe substitute antibiotics because the original order was unavail- able. Local police are checking into a couple of other break and enters in the region. These crimes have distinctly similar patterns and similar items were taken. The Terrace Bay Police Force is working co-operative- ly with the O.P.P. to decide if the crimes are linkable and to attempt to locate the culprits. The Terrace Bay Police are looking for public assistance with this investigation. If any- one noticed anything unusual on Simcoe Plaza the night of August 1, please call the Police Department in Terrace Bay. Rossport bottle message found after 2 cold years in Superior By Greg Giddens The News It may not be the newest or quickest way of meeting peo- ple, but a note in the bottle in Nipigon Bay introduced two people to each other. Anita Lange of Nipigon found the note in a bottle on August first of this year, almost two years after it was thrown in the water at Rossport. "I wasn't even going to go and check it out...I just could- n't believe it," said Lange, who found the bottle on the shore of Bowman Island, about 35 miles west of Rossport.
