This movie is supposed to be a satirical slap at the stereo-type teen movies of the 1950's, but it is just silly. Depp plays the main character, Crybaby, an anti-social misfit, who is leader of a gang called The Drapes. All the girls in town drool over him because of his one claim to fame; his inability to cry more than one perfect teardrop. Amy Locane is Alison, the cutsie, perfect, fresh-faced girl Crybaby falls in love with. She is tired of being good all the time (shades of Grease here) and decides to give his way of life a try. But her boyfriend Baldwin (Stephen Mailer) has other ideas. He and his gang try to bust up the party at Turkey Point trailer park, where Crybaby lives. The cops arrive and arrest only Drape members and Crybaby is thrown into a juvenile facility. A spiteful wanabe girlfriend of Crybaby proclaims to the press that she is pregnant with Crybaby's child and they are engaged. Alison believes it and announces her hatred of Crybaby on the radio. Baldwin and Alison are hired to sing at the Enchanted Forest theme park. While there, Alison realizes that Baldwin only cares for her as a possession and does not really love her. The Drapes take her back to town to try and get Crybaby free. This movie is filled with such idiotic scenes, it's almost tor- ture to watch them. Crybaby and Alison confess to each other that they are both orphans. Now this coincidence might have been believable if left there. But the writers felt the need to extend these sad tales with Alison's parents being killed at the exact same time in different planes that collide together and Crybaby's parents were executed because his dad was the Alphabit bomber. The ending, with Alison flying off a motorcy- cle and making a perfect landing in Crybaby's lap, is pure carni- val side-show stuff. Don't bother with this movie, unless you like muttering "Cheez, this is stupid" about 1000 times. I give it a 1.
