"Any increase in conditional and unconditional grants is welcome and will be a benefit to Terrace Bay," said Jim Zeigler, reeve of the township. However, he added, they are not going to cover the costs put on municipalities by things such as the new police services, freedom of information and pay equity legislation initiated by the previous government. In a recent announcement Municipal Affairs Minister Dave Cooke said municipal- itics will receive five per cent more from the province this year in unconditional grants funding than in 1990. Continued on page 3 Special recognition for two Terry Fox Run participants Ona cold wet day last October two young girls took part in Terrace Bay's first Terry Fox Run and between them raised $347. Amy Colebourne brought in $171 in pledges and Kelly-Ann Rochon $176. Both girls live in Terrace Bay. Recently, each girl received a letter from Betty Fox, Terry's mother, thanking them for their support and extra effort. The text of the letters is reprinted below. . The 1990 Terry Fox Run was a special one for my family. We commemorated the 10th Anniversary of Terry's Marathon of Hope and re-traced his route from St. John's, Newfoundland to Thunder Bay, Ontario. The journey Terry started in 1980 has been embraced by Canadians everywhere over the past ten years and has raised over $88 million for cancer research. It was clear to Rolly and myself that Terry's dream is nurtured so caringly by the residents of Ontario who raised over $3 million in 1990. Thank you so much for your support. Your extra effort in obtaining donors and collecting pledges is frequently brought to my attention by the Ontario office staff. Your commitment is truly inspirational to all those who work to make The Terry Fox Run a success. I hope you will remain committed to the cause in 1991 (September 15th) as we begin the new decade of The Terry Fox Run. My family joins me in thanking you for embracing Terry's dream.
