Some of the top junior and school teams come to get some early season practice and tune up for the upcoming competitive season. Last year's winners, the Susan Haverluck girls team from the Fort William Curling Club will . not be returning as they are over- age, so this leaves the field wide open for younger teams. There is also consideration given to novice and recreational curlers. The draw is set so that each team will compete against teams of their own ability and competitive level.
