By Carolyn Williams "Watcher II" Rated "R' Starring Marc Singer, Tracy Scoggins, Jonathon Farwell, Irene Miracle I'll be honest folks. I didn't watch the whole movie because the sound was incredibly bad. When there was dialogue, it sounded like the characters were in a tunnel and then the music would just explode into the scene. I don't mind playing (a little) with the volume button if the movie is first rate, but this one doesn't even come close. I saw the original "Watchers" with Dee Wallace Stone and Corey Haim, which far surpasses this cheap-copycat. To me, a sequel should continue with the same characters and expand on their story. This one seemed to totally ignore the fact there was a predecessor. (Although it may have come up later, I watched the first 30 or 40 minutes and there were no references._ Sound problems aside, this movie doesn't have the same bit- ing intensity of the original. It does have the prerequisite bloody bodies, but there's no charisma to this movie. I just wasn't interest- ed enough to put up with the sound problems. Since I didn't watch all of it, I won't give it a rating. You can decide for yourselves, but, if I were you, I'd try to find a copy of the original instead. "Fast Food" Rated PG13 Starring: Clark Brandon, Tracy Griffith, Randal Patrick, special appearances by Jim Varney as Wrangler Bob and Traci Lords as Dixie Love Oh! Say. it isn't-so. Earnest! How can anyone who made "Earnest Saves :Christmas", "Earnest Goes to Camp", and all those wonderful Vern and Earnest commercials have possible have seen this turkey. This is the typi- cal little guy against the corpora- tion style movie, but done in a very sloppy way. Varney (of Earnest fame) is Wrangler Bob - a bizarre taking and acting pseudo cowboy who owns 750 hamburger joints that all serve food so loaded with additives and chemicals you could dissolve rocks in it. He wants a piece of land that is right next to a college. There is a gas station on it, but that's no trouble because the owner, Samantha, is in financial trouble and wants to sell. Wrangler Bob is smiling with joy as he puts another quarter in his horsey ride. What he doesn't know is that trouble is looming on the horizon. Trouble is in the form of Auggie (Brandon) and Drew (Patrick) - two professional stu- dents who've been in college over eight years. They are scam artists and womanizers. The Dean reached his limit and graduates them. Now they are forced to find a way to survive. Do they get real jobs?' Please...that would be too easy for these losers. They convince Samantha (Drew's cousin) to turn the gas station into a restaurant themselves. In an extremely unrealistic scene, the three and a couple of college buddies turn a 30 year old gas station into a restaurant in one day. (Let's not bring the reality of Health and Fire Inspectors, avail- ability of supplies, or even skill of workmen into this right?) Business is not so good until they develop a secret sauce and Auggie puts a sex uninhibitor (from the college lab) into it. Now business is so good, they can hardly keep up. This makes Wrangler Bob very upset, so he-hires Dixie (Lords) to infiltrate the place and steal the sauce. (LOrds, the queen of pornographic films, says she wants to be taken seriously as an actress now, but playing half- dressed bimbos is not the way to do it. Miss Lords can you say good taste? I guess not.) - (ATTENTION: LOCAL CRAFTERS Are you interested in displaying your crafts to SHOW AND SELL? Cathy Campbell e Pat Moher | will be held Saturday October 6th from 9:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. at Schreiber Legion $4.00 single $6.00 couple Music by Shuffle & Shake Dixie brings the sauce to Wrangler Bob and he has it ana- lyzed. When he discovers the secret ingredient, he gets the FDA to close the place down. Now the boys have to go to court. Everyone is mad at Auggie and won't talk to him. Now (sur- prise, surprise) Auggie finally realizes that friendship is more important than money. In a com- pletely silly courtroom scene, Auggie tries to convince the judge that they did nothing wrong. Is he successful? Does Wranger Bob win? Do the kids get the restaurant back? This movie is the lint in the belly but- ton of great underdog movies like "Best of the Best" or "Earnest Saves Christmas". I guess money is money, but Jim Varney should have passed on this one.
