ONTARIO GOVERNMENT NOTICE Commencement of Planning/Preliminary Design Studies FOUR - LANING OF HIGHWAY 11/ 17 THUNDER BAY TO NIPIGON THE MINISTRY OF TRANSPORTATION (M.T.O.) wishes to announce the start of two studies which are part of a series of engineering and environmental projects being carried out in preparation for the four-laning of Highway 11/17, the Trans-Canada Highway, between Thunder Bay and Nipigon : #1 is a planni roject which extends from the junction of Highway 11 ond 4 at Nipigon pet ek 2 for 19 kilometres to the west boundary of the Township of Red Rock. This project will examine a range of options to four-lane the highway and maintain access to the businesses and residences located in the area. Also included will be the planning for twinning the Nipigon River Bridge. Study #2isa preliminary design study which extends from Highway 527 easter- ly for 15 kilometres to Lakeshore Drive in the Township of Shuniah. This pro- ject will establish a preferred location for the new lanes of the twinned highway. The first Public Information Centers are tentatively scheduled for the fall/winter of 1990. The centers will allow the public and interest groups an opportunity to discuss their concerns and the studies with Ministry staff. The public will be notified of these Information Centres by a. general mail-out in the area and by notices placed in local newspapers. Both studies are being conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act. : Later in 1990, the MInistry will be starting two additional plan- ning studies for the remaining 67 kilometres between Lakeshore Drive in Shuniah and Red Rock. e are interested in hearing any comments or concerns you or lyour group may have about the two studies being initiated. That day, Ontario's provincial educational broadcast network celebrates its twentieth anniversary, with festivities in local communities and on air. Communities across the province will celebrate TVOntario Day with a variety of events, from proclamations and city hall flag raisings to tree "planting at local schools. Festivities will span the province, from Kenora on the Manitoba The regular meeting of St. Martin of Tours was held last Monday preceded by the rosary with the intentions offered for a successful year and Peace throughout the World. . A scripture reading was led followed with a reflection. Thank you cards were received and a newsletter from our Diocesan Director Father Murtagh and Diocesan President Josie Corniato was read. _ The Anniversary Brunch held on June 17th had a good turnout. Marilyn reported for Education Convenor on the Holy Childhood Association which is children helping children. The W.R.A.P. program (White Ribbon Against Pornography) will be held October 28th to November 4th. Sunday, October 7th is Respect for Life Sunday and everyone is urged to say the Rosary at 3:00 p.m. Plans are underway for the Bazaar being held on October 20th. Lillian Belliveau attended the National Convention in Montreal. The St. Michael of Tour border and Hepworth in southern Amabel Township to Mattawa and Alfred near Quebec; from the smallest communities such as Thornloe to the largest, including Hamilton and Toronto. September 27 also marks another significant date- the twentieth birthday of Polkaroo, the star of TVOntario's best-loved series for children, Polka Dot Door. Polkaroo will join Toronto's mayor and TVOntario's chairman at Nathan Phillips on Square at 10:30 a.m. Council from Mississauga won the Banner contest. The banner was on display at the National Convention. The Mid-term Executive meet- ing will be held Oct. 20th at St. Peters Parish in Thunder Bay. When the Scroll for Life is complete it will be returned to Miracle for Life in Elmira. It will VOntario's 20th Anniversary September 27, together with school-age children from local downtown schools, to celebrate Polkaroo's birthday. ; Polkaroo will be presenting the children with special TVOntario twentieth-anniversary t-shirts, emblazoned with the spe- cially designed twentieth- anniversary logo. Telesat Canada, Canada's national satellite carrier, is the official sponsor of TVOntario's twentieth-anniversary celebra- tions. be returned to the Basilica of OUr Lady of the Rosary, Fatima on Mother's Day May 13th. All CWL members of. our Parish may attend pre-meeting" mass each month. Father Campbell asked for volunteers to help out with the Sunday School Program. The meeting closed with the Miracle for Life '90 prayer. Women of the Moose Terrace Bay Chapter #1426 Women of the Moose held their chapter night meeting last Sunday. Senior Regent Jean Bozec chaired the meeting with 17 co- workers present. College of Regents Chairman Alma Hart introduced her com- mittee and gave a resume of her program for the night. The chapter will help convene Provincial Convention in Ottawa let your words and Vickie Boucher attended the qo the talking a benefit dinner and dance on September 29th. A Hallowe'en dance will be held. A party will be held for children of Moose members only with Heather Sechesky in charge. A donation to the Guide and Brownie Ass. was approved.
