Bridge repairs were being done on the Little Pic River locat- ed 30 kilometres west of Marathon along Highway 17, which required two generators to operate caution lights. These lights warned oncoming motorists that there was construction ahead and to use care when crossing the bridge. The two generators, one on either side of the bridge, were stolen between 9:00 p.m., the 25th of April and 6:00 a.m., the 26th of April. The thieves cut heavy chains to free the genera- tors which were chained to con- crete blocks. This theft made a hazardous situation even more dangerous. The generators were described as a Honda model CJ 0183 and a Polyquip model PGX 3400D. The possibility exists that these generators were stolen to 3 > Corns? The Marathon Crime Stoppers Board of Directors will pay a cash, reward for the arrest of the person or persons responsible for this theft. Schreiber Men's Slowpitch The weekend of Sept 7, 8, and 9 saw the completion of the sea- son for the Schreiber Men's Slow Pitch League with a double elimi- nation playoff tournament. First round winners were the Sabres, Tigers, Diggers, and Sluggers, with the league champi- on I-Team earning a bye into the second round. Saturday morning started with the I-Team narrowly defeating the 8th place Sluggers 19- 16. The Crimestoppers then eliminated the Renegades 19- 9, Sluggers eliminated the Devils 13- 6, Crimestoppers eliminated the Expos 14- 13, Sabres defeated the Diggers 9- 5, and the last gave saw the third place Tigers defeat the I-Team 19- 14 to send the I- Team into the rat race on Sunday. Sunday morning opened up with the Diggers eliminating the Sluggers 11- 6, followed by the I- Team knocking out the Crimestoppers 23- 11. The next game saw the two remaining undefeatéd teams square off, with . the Sabres defeating the Tigers 13- 4. The I-Team and Diggers I-Team,victorious 14- 13. The semi-final game then had the I- Team and Tigers meet for the sec- ond time in the tournament with the I-Team shutting out the Tigers 5- Oand advancing to the finals against their league rivals, the Sabres. The Sabres maintained their consistent play to defeat the I-Team 11- 4 and repeat as play- off champions. Congratulations to the Sabres for winning the playoff trophy two years in a row. Congratulations to the I-Team for winning the Corporal's Cup four years in a row. THe Corporal's Cup is awarded to the regular season champions and was donated by the league in memory of "Corporal" Don Burton who supported, organized, and played Schreiber Sports and recreation.
